ABC Renews ‘The Rookie’ For Season 7

Still awaiting Season 6 in the UK

by Dave Elliott

Whilst here in the UK we wait around for Sky to air Season 6 of The Rookie (coming in July according to the latest info), we have good news from the USA as ABC renews the police drama for Season 7.

‘The Rookie’ stars Nathan Fillion as John Nolan, the oldest rookie in the LAPD, who has used his life experience, determination and sense of humour to keep up with rookies 20 years his junior. Nolan now faces his biggest challenge as a police officer when he must come to terms with the choices he has made in pursuit of the truth.

Whilst the spin-off “Feds” series didn’t last past one season, the main show is still going very strong for ABC. The opener of season six was the most-watched episode of the drama in around six years, up 14% from its average across season five. That’s not usually how things go, as long-running procedural dramas tend to drop audiences later in the run, not gain them, so that is really impressive. It’s also up in live numbers and in the key 18-49 demographic that advertisers love so much, so it really shouldn’t be a surprise ABC wants more.

Alongside Fillion, ‘The Rookie’ stars Mekia Cox as Nyla Harper, Eric Winter as Tim Bradford, Alyssa Diaz as Angela, Richard T. Jones as Sergeant Wade Grey, Melissa O’Neil as Lucy Chen, Tru Valentino as Aaron Thorsen, Jenna Dewan as Bailey Nune, Lisseth Chavez as Celina Juarez, and Shawn Ashmore as Wesley Evers.

‘The Rookie’ is produced by Entertainment One (eOne), which is the lead studio and international distributor (that is why the show airs on Sky Witness and not Disney+ in the UK). Disney’s ABC Signature are co-producers.

We’re still waiting on Sky Witness to set an air date for ‘The Rookie‘ Season 6 in the UK. It was originally scheduled for April, but they later bumped it to some point in July 2024… However, if you want to keep track of this, or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
