If you were wondering what some of the ‘Ghosts‘ creators were doing next, we have an answer! Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond have teamed up for a new animated series for Netflix titled ‘In Case of Emergency’, set in a UK hospital.
According to Deadline, who broke the news, the animated series takes its inspiration from shows such as ‘Family Guy’, and would be set in a British hospital. It’s being produced by Big Talk Studios (Ludwig, The Outlaws), who have teamed up with the BAFTA and Emmy-winning Blue Zoo Animation Studio (The Adventures of Paddington) to create the series.
Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond began working together on the much beloved ‘Horrible Histories’, before moving on to the wildly entertaining live-action/puppet series ‘Yonderland’, and then the smash hit ‘Ghosts’. The entire “Ghosts Team” consists of Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Rickard and Willbond, however, much like “Monty Python”, they often split off into duos or work on solo projects. Most recently, Rickard & Willbond co-wrote the feature-length television comedy ‘We Are Not Alone’ for UKTV. Along with the rest of the “Ghosts Team”, they also executive produce the US version of ‘Ghosts‘ which was recently renewed for Season 4.
At the moment, ‘In Case of Emergency’ has not been greenlit by Netflix, but Big Talk has produced a six-minute animatic pilot, with Rickard & Willbond roping in members of the British comedy community to do the voiceover work. However, Big Talk CEO, Kenton Allen, did say that Netflix approached them about the adult animated comedy, so there is clearly interest from the streamer. Should it move forward, Netflix UK chief, Anne Mensah, and Julio Bonet, manager of adult animation for Netflix, would oversee the show.
‘In Case of Emergency’ is classed as “in development” at the moment, but we’ll let you know if/when we hear more!
