‘Miss Scarlet’ Renewed For Season 6

by Dave Elliott

It seems Miss Scarlet is doing perfectly well without “The Duke” as US network MASTERPIECE PBS announces the drama has been renewed for a 6th Season, as Season 5 heads to the UK next month.

‘Miss Scarlet’, which airs on U&Alibi in the UK, follows Eliza Scarlet (Kate Phillips – ‘Peaky Blinders’, ‘The Crown’),  the Victorian London detective who spent the first four seasons working alongside will-they-won’t-they love interest, Inspector William “The Duke” Wellington (played by Stuart Martin). However, season five saw a big change as “The Duke” left for America, so she finds herself dealing with a new DI, and he didn’t seem to want or need help from a private investigator… at first.

Tom Durant Pritchard (This Is Going To Hurt, The Crown) joined the series as Alexander Blake, a handsome former soldier and respected detective inspector who joins the force at Scotland Yard to replace the Duke. Their relationship gets off to a rocky start since Blake has decided not to allow private detectives to aid in his investigations. As Blake and Miss Scarlet cross paths at various crime scenes across London, they can’t help but develop mutual respect for one another, and perhaps even an attraction.

Phillips and Pritchard both return in their respective roles for season six, alongside Cathy Belton as Ivy, Paul Bazely as Clarence, Simon Ludders as Mr. Potts, Tim Chipping as Detective Phelps, and Ansu Kabia as Moses. Also joining the cast this season are Sam Buchanan (My Fault: London, Such Brave Girls) as the new, young Detective George Willows who joins Scotland Yard after rising through the police ranks and Grace Hogg-Robinson (The Coroner, COBRA) as Isabel Summers, an ambitious young woman who joins the Clerical Office alongside Ivy.

As Eliza and Blake’s once-fraught relationship begins to evolve, they find that working together may be a tricky prospect. Meanwhile, newlyweds Ivy and Potts adjust to married life, a new detective settles in at Scotland Yard, and Nash causes chaos, even from across the globe. Joining this season’s adventures in his greatly anticipated return is Moses Valentine, who swoops in to help Eliza and her crew, just when they need him most.

“Season six brings exciting twists, new faces, and the return of beloved characters—including the much-anticipated comeback of Moses Valentine. We’re thrilled to continue Eliza Scarlet’s journey and deeply grateful to MASTERPIECE PBS and UKTV for their unwavering support in bringing the series to our dedicated fans.” said Patty Lenahan Ishimoto, Executive Producer, Miss Scarlet.

MASTERPIECE Head of Scripted Content and Executive Producer Susanne Simpson adds: “What a joy to be back with Miss Scarlet for a sixth season. We are delighted to be able to bring fans more of Eliza, Inspector Blake and the amazing group of ensemble characters that make this show the hit that it is.” MASTERPIECE is presented on PBS by GBH Boston.
