ABC Orders New Spin-Off ‘9-1-1: Nashville’ To Series & Announces ‘Doctor Odyssey’ Crossover!

by Dave Elliott

Disney’s ABC has revealed two interesting developments for ‘9-1-1’ fans. Firstly, a new spin-off called 9-1-1: Nashville, and secondly, the main 9-1-1 show will have a crossover with Doctor Odyssey!

‘9-1-1: Nashville’ comes, once again, from Ryan Murphy & Tim Minear, alongside ‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ showrunner Rashad Raisani. With Lone Star bowing out earlier this year, mainly due to cost, ABC had been keen on developing another spin-off but hadn’t decided on where… Various places were suggested, including Las Vegas and Hawaii. However, due to a mix of costs, and wanted to avoid places which had already featured quite heavily in procedural shows recently, they settled on Nashville.

We don’t know any more about the show, other than it will be 9-1-1, set in Nashville, and comes from 20th Television in association with Ryan Murphy Television. We’ll let you know if and when they announce any casting for it. Maybe they could tempt back Connie Britton, who played Abby Clark in season one of ‘9-1-1’, but previously starred in the TV show ‘Nashville’!

The second bit of ‘9-1-1’ news is that Angela Bassett‘s Athena Grant is apparently taking another cruise… Which is brave of her given what happened last time (see the opening episode of ‘9-1-1’ Season 7!) However, this time, the ship is none other than the one crewed by Murphy’s other show, ‘Doctor Odyssey’.

According to the plot description, “Unexpected guest Athena Grant suspects two passengers are targeting the ship’s vault. Enlisting Max’s help, Athena raises the stakes in a dangerous game where not everyone will end up with a winning hand.”

Bassett will join the ‘Doctor Odyssey’ series regular cast of Joshua Jackson (Max), Don Johnson (Captain Robert Massey), Phillipa Soo (Avery) and Sean Teale (Avery). Whilst crossovers are not uncommon for Murphy’s procedural shows, this will be the first time two shows from (previously) entirely separate Murphy universes will have crossed over.

9-1-1: Nashville‘ does not yet have a premiere date but is set for the 2025/2026 season in the USA on ABC, so will likely land in early 2026 on Disney+ UK. ‘Doctor Odyssey‘ also airs on Disney+ in the UK, and is expected to return in Spring 2025 after a mid-season break. If you want to keep track of these or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
