In news which is not exactly surprising, but nice to hear, CBS has renewed ‘Tracker‘ and ‘Elsbeth‘ for Season 3, ‘Fire Country‘ for Season 4, plus new seasons of ‘NCIS‘, ‘NCIS: Origins‘, and ‘NCIS: Sydney‘. They have also given a 2 Season renewal to the comedy ‘Ghosts‘, and more!
“This season, our new and returning series continue to showcase CBS as the leader in launching and programming the biggest hits with mass appeal for broadcast and streaming viewers,” said CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach. “These returning shows represent a mix of long-standing hits and a new generation of fan favourites. In collaboration with our extraordinarily talented partners in front of and behind the camera, we look forward to delivering another successful season.”
Whilst a lot of the US networks tend to hold on until May to announce their renewals, CBS has tended to announce the return of their big hitters early, and this year is no exception. ‘Tracker’ was US broadcast’s most-watched entertainment program averaging 18m viewers, and up 4% on last year; ‘Fire Country’ averages 10.6 million multi-platform viewers with streaming alone, up 43% year over year, and has spin-off ‘Sheriff Country‘ incoming; ‘Elsbeth’ has 11m multi-platform viewers, and is up 3% year-on-year; Over on the ‘NCIS’ side, the main show averages 10.4m, up 3%, with ‘NCIS: Origins’ at 9.2m and ‘NCIS: Sydney’ at 7m.
In addition to all of those, CBS has also renewed ‘Young Sheldon’ spinoff ‘Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage‘, which was US broadcast’s most-watched comedy; ‘Hollywood Squares’, which was US broadcast’s most-watched new unscripted series; And comedy ‘Ghosts‘, which landed a two-season pickup, taking it to at least Season 6.
If that’s not enough, ‘Matlock‘ had already been renewed for Season 2, and the main ‘FBI‘ series was renewed already up to Season 9. That leaves us waiting for news on ‘The Equalizer‘, ‘FBI: International‘, ‘FBI: Most Wanted‘, ‘The Neighborhood‘, ‘Poppa’s House’, ‘S.W.A.T.’ and ‘Watson‘. Nothing to worry about… yet… on these, it’s just CBS renewing the massive hits before they make decisions on everything else…
However, they have got the ‘Blue Bloods’ spin-off ‘Boston Blue‘, and ‘Fire Country’ spin-off ‘Sheriff Country’ lined up for next season, so they might need to make some space… We shall see what happens when most of the renewals and cancellations are announced by end of April/early May 2025.
