Get ready for more heartfelt drama and small-town charm, as ‘Virgin River‘ will officially return for Season 8 on Netflix.
Netflix’s enduring romantic drama has been given an early renewal, shortly after Season 7 wrapped production. The new season will once again consist of 10 episodes, promising another year of stories with Mel, Jack, Doc, Hope, and the rest of the Virgin River community.
“On behalf of myself and the whole Virgin River family, we’re eternally grateful to Netflix and to the fans for allowing us to continue on this journey with these beloved characters,” said showrunner Patrick Sean Smith.
For those unfamiliar, Alexandra Breckenridge (‘This Is Us’) stars as nurse practitioner Mel Monroe, who leaves behind city life for the scenic tranquillity of Virgin River, where she falls for local bartender Jack, played by Martin Henderson (‘Grey’s Anatomy’). In the most recent season finale, the couple finally tied the knot, setting the stage for newlywed life in the next chapter.
Season 7 is expected to delve into Mel and Jack’s early days of marriage and their hopes for starting a family, while Doc and Hope band together to protect the town from outside threats. Two new characters are also set to join the ensemble this season.
With its latest renewal, ‘Virgin River’ becomes Netflix’s longest-running English-language drama. It surpasses the likes of Orange Is the New Black and Grace and Frankie in longevity, boasting over 70 hours of content across its 84 episodes to date. The show continues to perform strongly in viewership, frequently charting on both Netflix’s global Top 10 and Nielsen’s rankings. Season 6, for instance, debuted at #1 and remained in the Top 10 for four consecutive weeks.
Season 8 was greenlit shortly after filming wrapped on Season 7, which included a rare departure from Vancouver with a brief shoot in Mexico. This early pickup reflects Netflix’s new strategy of confirming seasons more quickly to avoid lengthy delays between releases.
The show’s reliable production schedule, loyal fan base, and cost-effective filming model have helped it outlast flashier competitors on the platform. Its success may also be lifting other Robyn Carr adaptations, such as Sullivan’s Crossing, which recently reached #1 on Netflix’s Daily Top 10 in the U.S.
Returning cast for Season 7 includes Tim Matheson (‘The West Wing’), Annette O’Toole(‘Smallville’), Colin Lawrence, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Sarah Dugdale, Zibby Allen, Marco Grazzini, Kai Bradbury, and Kandyse McClure.
While no exact date is confirmed for ‘Virgin River‘ Season 7, it’s expected to premiere in early 2026 on Netflix. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
