Resident Alien’ is coming in for a landing. Creator and showrunner Chris Sheridan has confirmed that the upcoming fourth season finale will also serve as the series’ conclusion.
Speaking ahead of the finale, which airs Friday, 8th August on USA Network and Syfy, Sheridan revealed that he approached Season 4 knowing it would likely be the end. “I knew going into it that this was likely going to be our final season,” he said. “Creatively, that was exciting because I knew we could spend the time wrapping up some storylines and driving toward an ending. I’m so proud of how good Season 4 is and especially proud that we were able to finish as strongly as we did, with a finale that is probably my favourite episode of the series.”
Sheridan added that while this season provides closure, there’s still room for more: “The finale gives Resident Alien a very satisfying ending while also leaving the door cracked open for any future this world may have. I can’t wait for everyone to see it.”
The cast has also taken to social media to react to the news. Alan Tudyk (Firefly, Rogue One), who stars as Harry, wrote on Threads: “It was a hell of a fun playground to play in. Laughter through the tears:))).” Corey Reynolds (The Closer), who plays Sheriff Mike Thompson, called the role the “best job I ever… had,” adding, “If there is an upside here, it’s that we were somewhat prepared for this, so you, the fans, will still get a complete story. A beginning. A middle. And an end.”
Sara Tomko (Once Upon a Time), who plays Asta, shared an emotional post on Instagram: “The news dropped today that our beloved Resident Alien series is coming to an end. … This show changed my life completely. … Every season we were told how lucky we were to still have a job and I can say with full certainty that luck had nothing to do with it… I will never forget this time in my life nor the effect this show had on all of us.”
Elizabeth Bowen (Upload), who plays Deputy Liv Baker, echoed the sentiment on Threads: “We’ve been thinking that this season was probably our last ever since we got renewed for season 4. This is just confirmation. Thanks to everyone who has supported the show and continues to support us. We love you. Three more episodes.”
While the cancellation will disappoint fans, Sheridan assures that the series won’t leave them hanging, promising a finale that ties up key storylines while leaving “the door cracked open” for possible future adventures.
Based on the Dark Horse comics, “Resident Alien” follows a crash-landed alien named Harry whose secret mission is to kill all humans. In season three, Harry vowed to work with General McCallister to rid the Earth of the Grey aliens, a task made more difficult when he discovered that the Grey Hybrid Joseph had taken a job in town as the new Deputy. In addition, Harry struggled to balance business and his personal life when he fell in love for the first time.
Season 4 starts with Harry (Tudyk) and his baby Bridget stuck in prison on the Grey Moonbase, while a shape-shifting Alien called a Mantid (also Tudyk) has taken over his body on Earth, passing himself off as the real Harry Vanderspeigle. Harry manages to escape the Greys and arrives back on Earth for a showdown with the Mantid Alien, but soon finds he may not have what he needs to finish the job. Asta (Sara Tomko) and D’arcy (Alice Wetterlund) struggle to keep a secret from Ben (Levi Fiehler) and Kate (Meredith Garretson), who are both desperate to find answers to what has been happening to them. Sheriff Mike (Corey Reynolds) and Deputy Liv (Elizabeth Bowen) attempt to solve some mysterious deaths in Patience that Sheriff Mike is beginning to think aren’t caused by anything human.
‘Resident Alien’ Season 4 (Final) premieres Tuesday, 12th August 2025 at 9:00pm on Sky Max in the UK.
