Prime Video Unveils Big News for Critical Role Fans: ‘The Legend of Vox Machina’ to Conclude with Fifth Season & ‘The Mighty Nein’ Sets November Premiere

by Dave Elliott

It was a huge day for Critical Role fans at San Diego Comic-Con as Prime Video revealed major updates for two of its beloved fantasy animated series. The Legend of Vox Machina has been renewed for a fifth and final season, while the highly anticipated new series The Mighty Nein has officially set its premiere date for Tuesday, 19th November 2025.

Vox Machina’s Final Adventure

The announcement that ‘The Legend of Vox Machina’ will wrap up with Season Five came during the show’s Comic-Con panel, where fans were also treated to an exclusive episodic clip teasing the upcoming fourth season, which is set to arrive in 2026.

Produced by Critical Role and Titmouse, the series has been a critical and fan-favourite hit, expanding the world of Exandria with its epic storytelling. In Season Three, the Chroma Conclave’s devastation spread across the land while the Cinder King relentlessly hunted down Vox Machina. The group ultimately saved Tal’Dorei and all of Exandria but at great personal cost. Season Four will follow the heroes on separate journeys across the globe, before a cataclysmic new threat forces them to reunite against an even darker foe.

“A huge congratulations to our creative collaborators at Critical Role and Titmouse for bringing the incredible story of ‘The Legend of Vox Machina’ to life for our global Prime Video customers,” said Melissa Wolfe, Head of Animation at Amazon MGM Studios. “Achieving five seasons is a significant milestone for everyone involved, and we can’t wait for fans to experience what we have planned for the epic fifth and final season.”

Executive producers and Critical Role co-founders Sam Riegel and Travis Willingham added: “It’s so rare for any television series to get to tell a complete story, beginning to end, exactly as it was envisioned. We’re so grateful to our fans, the critters, our partners at Prime Video, and the original Kickstarter backers for bringing this show to life, and turning the numbskulls of Vox Machina into animation legends.”

The voice cast features Critical Role founders Laura Bailey (The Last of Us: Part II), Taliesin Jaffe (World of Warcraft), Ashley Johnson (The Last of Us), Liam O’Brien (Marvel’s Avengers), Matthew Mercer (Baldur’s Gate 3), Marisha Ray (Fallout 76), Sam Riegel (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), and Travis Willingham (Marvel’s Avengers).

The Mighty Nein Joins the Party

In equally exciting news, Prime Video also confirmed that ‘The Mighty Nein’, the next animated series set in Exandria, will premiere worldwide on Tuesday, 19th November 2025.

The show follows a group of fugitives and outcasts bound by secrets and scars. When a powerful arcane relic known as “The Beacon” falls into dangerous hands, they must learn to work together to save the realm — and prevent reality itself from unravelling.

The star-studded guest cast for Season One includes Mark Strong (Nine Perfect Strangers, 1917), Alan Cumming (The Traitors), Tim McGraw (The Blind Side, 1883), Anika Noni Rose (The Princess and the Frog), Ming-Na Wen (The Mandalorian), Auli’i Cravalho (Moana), Rahul Kohli (iZombie), Robbie Daymond (Date Everything!), and Jonathan Frakes (Star Trek: The Next Generation).

The series stars the Critical Role founders, with Laura Bailey, Taliesin Jaffe, Ashley Johnson, Liam O’Brien, Matthew Mercer, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel, and Travis Willingham reprising their roles. They also serve as executive producers alongside Tasha Huo (Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft), who acts as showrunner, Chris Prynoski (Metalocalypse), Shannon Prynoski (Fairfax), Antonio Canobbio (Star Trek: Lower Decks), and Ben Kalina (Big Mouth).

The Mighty Nein’ premieres Tuesday, 19th November 2025, on Prime Video. ‘The Legend of Vox Machina’ Season Four arrives in 2026, with the fifth and final season to follow.
