Prime Video Renews ‘Ballard’ For Season 2, Expanding Michael Connelly’s Detective Universe

by Dave Elliott

Prime Video has confirmed that Ballard, starring Maggie Q (Nikita, Designated Survivor), will return for a second season. The series continues the story of LAPD Detective Renée Ballard, a character from Michael Connelly’s best-selling novels, as she navigates the politics, pressure, and cold cases of the department.

Set within Connelly’s growing Bosch universe, ‘Ballard’ began with Renée working the night shift at Hollywood Station before transitioning to the Cold Case Unit, a role that puts her sharp instincts and resilience to the test as she seeks justice for forgotten victims.

Lauren Lancaster, Head of US SVOD TV Development and Series – Co-Productions for Amazon MGM Studios, said: “We are excited to share that the Bosch universe will continue to expand with a second season of Ballard for our global Prime Video customers. The audience response has been phenomenal, resonating with audiences worldwide thanks to its gripping storytelling and outstanding performances from Maggie Q and the entire cast.”

Showrunners Michael Alaimo and Kendall Sherwood added, “We’re so grateful to have the chance to continue Ballard’s story. It’s a pleasure to dive deeper into these characters and this world… We can’t wait for everyone to see what we’ve cooked up!”

Meanwhile, author and executive producer Michael Connelly expressed his appreciation: “It’s a great privilege to have my characters brought to life on screen season after season, and it’s thanks to the fans continuing to tune in that we’re able to do so. I’m especially grateful to Maggie Q for embodying Renée so perfectly, honouring the character as we take her into the next stage of her journey.”

The second season will continue to be produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Hieronymus Pictures, with Connelly, Alaimo, Sherwood, Henrik Bastin, Jasmine Russ, and Trish Hofmann serving as executive producers.

Ballard Season 2 does not yet have a premiere date, but will stream exclusively on Prime Video in the UK and worldwide. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
