Netflix has unveiled the trailer for the second season of ‘A Man on the Inside’, the Emmy-nominated comedy starring Ted Danson (The Good Place, Cheers), and this time the retired professor-turned-undercover mole finds himself tackling his juiciest case yet — on a college campus.
Created by Mike Schur (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Parks and Recreation), the new season sends Charles Nieuwendyk back undercover, enrolling at his daughter’s alma mater, Wheeler College. What starts as a quiet return to academia soon turns into another eccentric investigation, complete with a faculty full of secrets and an alarming number of suspiciously cheerful administrators.
Schur jokes, “We are thrilled to make another season of A Man on the Inside, starring young up-and-comer Ted Danson… with one notable exception (young up-and-comer Ted Danson, who’s kind of a nightmare).”
Joining Danson are returning cast members Mary Elizabeth Ellis (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Lilah Richcreek Estrada (Ghosts), Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), and Stephen McKinley Henderson (Dune). Season 2 also brings a fresh batch of suspects, including Gary Cole (NCIS, Veep), Michaela Conlin (Bones), Max Greenfield (The Neighborhood), Sam Huntington (Being Human), Jason Mantzoukas (Big Mouth), Constance Marie (With Love), and David Strathairn (The Bourne Legacy).
Also appearing is Mary Steenburgen (Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist), who stars as Mona Margadoff — and shares the screen once again with her real-life husband, Danson. The couple were recently honoured with the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards for their decades of charitable work through their organisation Angels at Risk.
The first season, inspired by Maite Alberdi’s Oscar-nominated documentary The Mole Agent, followed Danson’s Charles as he went undercover in an assisted-living facility to investigate a mysterious theft. The series became a breakout hit for Netflix, staying in the streamer’s Top 10 for five weeks and earning critical acclaim for its mix of sharp comedy and gentle humanity.
