Netflix Unveils Adult Animated Comedy ‘Living the Dream’ from George Gendi and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe

by Dave Elliott

Netflix has announced Living the Dream, a new adult animated comedy from BAFTA-nominated creator George Gendi (Gumball, Apple & Onion) and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe, the team behind The Amazing World of Gumball and The Heroic Quest of the Valiant Prince Ivandoe.

The eight-episode workplace sitcom follows best friends Des and Ray, “a couple of really cool guys from London who should have made it big by now but haven’t but still could.” Instead, the pair find themselves stuck at an eco-conscious company called Ecofood, running social media for barely any pay while navigating office romances, L.A. directives, and parental disapproval. As the synopsis teases, “Could be worse, but could be much, much better.”

Gendi, who also voices one of the leads and serves as writer and executive producer, said:

“If living the dream is being asked for a quote for a press release to announce my new show and then at Netflix’s request, trying to make it more cheeky/funny and then doing that countless times because none of them are good enough, then I’ve made it. Anyway, let’s see if they let me use this one.”

The voice cast is stacked with British comedy talent including Javone Prince (PhoneShop, 3 Little Birds), Julia Davis (Sally4ever, Gavin and Stacey), Tom Stourton (Stath Lets Flats, Daddy Issues), Ellie White (The Completely Made Up Adventures of Dick Turpin, Ellie and Natasia), Ambika Mod (This Is Going to Hurt, One Day), Lisa Gilroy (The Studio, Jury Duty), Chris Diamantopoulos (Dark Matter, Criminal), Stavros Halkias (Bugonia, Tires), Kevin Eldon (Hot Fuzz, Rings of Power), Doon Mackichan (Good Omens, Ludvig), Charles Dale (Bergerac, The Crow Girl), and David Dawson (This Town, The Last Kingdom).

Produced by Warner Bros. Animation under Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe, with animation from Boulder Media (Danger Mouse, Cat Burglar, The Amazing World of Gumball), the series will run for eight 25-minute episodes. Executive producers include Sam Register, Sarah Fell, and Daniel Lennard, with additional writing from Phoebe Walsh, Ellie White, Joe Parnham, and Joe Markham alongside Gendi himself.

‘Living the Dream’ will stream on Netflix.
