‘Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord’ Drops Teaser Trailer As Disney+ Sets April Premiere

by Dave Elliott

Disney+ has unveiled the first teaser trailer and poster for Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord’, giving fans their first proper look at the upcoming animated series, which will bring Darth Maul back into the spotlight later this spring.

The new series is set shortly after the events of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and explores a galaxy still reeling in the early days of Emperor Palpatine’s reign. The teaser offers a glimpse of a darker, more criminal underworld-focused story, as Maul attempts to rebuild his shattered syndicate on the planet Janix, a world that has so far remained untouched by the Empire.

Voicing Maul once again is Sam Witwer (Star Wars Rebels), returning to the role he has become synonymous with across multiple animated projects. The cast also includes Gideon Adlon (The Craft: Legacy) as Devon Izara, a disillusioned young Force user who crosses paths with Maul, alongside Wagner Moura (Narcos) as Brander Lawson and Richard Ayoade (The IT Crowd) as the droid Two-Boots.

The animation style leans into a grittier, more stylised look than previous Lucasfilm Animation series, with the city of Janix presented as a dense, layered urban environment filled with crime syndicates, uneasy alliances, and the creeping shadow of Imperial influence. The teaser also hints at the involvement of the Inquisitorius, including Marrok, previously seen in Ahsoka Season 1.

The series will run for 10 episodes, releasing over five weeks with a two-episode premiere, followed by weekly episode drops leading up to the finale on Star Wars Day.

Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord’ Season 1 premieres Monday, 6th April 2026 on Disney+.
