Disney+ has released the official trailer and key art for ‘The Testaments’, the sequel series to ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’, giving fans their first proper look at the next chapter in Margaret Atwood’s dystopian world.
Based on Atwood’s follow-up novel, the drama acts as an evolution of ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’, shifting the focus to a younger generation growing up inside the oppressive regime of Gilead. The series is described as a coming-of-age story set within the brutal structures of the state, where loyalty, obedience and faith are enforced at every level of society.
The story follows Agnes, a dutiful and deeply pious teen raised within Gilead, and Daisy, a newcomer who arrives from beyond the regime’s borders. When the two find themselves navigating the strict world of Aunt Lydia’s elite preparatory school for future wives, their unlikely bond becomes the spark that could challenge everything they have been taught about their past, present and future.
The series stars Ann Dowd (The Handmaid’s Tale) returning as Aunt Lydia, alongside Chase Infiniti (Presumed Innocent), Lucy Halliday (Blue Jean), Mabel Li (The Tailings), Amy Seimetz (The Killing), Brad Alexander (Defending Jacob), Rowan Blanchard (Snowpiercer), Mattea Conforti (The Calling), Zarrin Darnell-Martin (The Umbrella Academy), Eva Foote (Murdoch Mysteries), Isolde Ardies (The Bold Type), Shechinah Mpumlwana (The Porter), Birva Pandya (Sort Of) and Kira Guloien (Designated Survivor).
‘The Testaments’ was created for television by showrunner Bruce Miller (The Handmaid’s Tale), who also executive produces alongside Warren Littlefield, Elisabeth Moss, Steve Stark, Shana Stein, Maya Goldsmith, John Weber, Sheila Hockin, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears and Mike Barker. Barker also directs the first three episodes. The series is produced by MGM Television.
‘The Testaments’ premieres Tuesday, 8th April 2026 on Disney+.
