Geektown Radio Episode 490, ‘War Machine’, ‘Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man’, ‘Saturday Night Live UK’ & ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’

by Dave Elliott

This week on Geektown Radio, Dave is joined by Darryl for a packed episode featuring big reviews, big trailers, and the sort of TV and film news that can absolutely wreck your watchlist in under an hour. Leading the charge this week are thoughts on ‘War Machine’, the return of Tommy Shelby in ‘Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man’, the arrival of ‘Saturday Night Live UK’, and the first proper look at ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, which gives fans plenty to pick apart.

On the review side, Darryl checks in with ‘War Machine’, alongside ’96 Minutes’, ‘Furies’ and ‘Cross’ Season 2, while Dave dives into ‘Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man’, ‘Saturday Night Live UK’ and ‘Invincible’ Season 4. So there is everything from high-stakes action and crime drama to superheroes, sketch comedy and one of Britain’s most flat-cap-heavy exports making its return.

A big talking point this week is ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, as Dave and Darryl break down the new trailer and what it might mean for Tom Holland’s next outing as Peter Parker. The film looks to be leaning into a more stripped-back, bruised and isolated version of Spider-Man, while also teasing appearances from Punisher, Scorpion and Bruce Banner. Basically, it is the sort of trailer designed to make Marvel fans pause, rewind, and immediately start overanalysing everything.

There is plenty more news packed into the episode too, including another update on the animated ‘Firefly’ revival, which now appears to sit between the original series and ‘Serenity’, meaning yes, it lands in the very specific “Wash is still alive” window. There is also chat about Netflix’s live-action ‘Assassin’s Creed’ series, HBO Max launching in the UK, and Sky picking up new titles including Heated Rivalry Season 2, YAGA, Superfakes, The ‘Burbs and PONIES.

Elsewhere, Dave and Darryl run through more of the week’s TV headlines, including the end of ‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ with Season 2, the final season of ‘Hacks’, and renewals for ‘Cross’, ‘Paradise’, ‘A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder’ and ‘CIA’. So, as ever, there is the usual mixture of good news, bad news, and broadcasters making ruthless decisions in the background.

The episode also rounds up what is landing on screens over the coming week, including Bait, ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 2, ‘The Pitt’, ‘For All Mankind’ Season 5, ‘Beyond Paradise’ Season 4, ‘Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen’, ‘Harley Quinn’ Season 5 and more.
