The BBC has released first-look images for ‘Marble Hall Murders‘, the upcoming final chapter in Anthony Horowitz’s Susan Ryeland mysteries, and confirmed a raft of new cast joining returning leads Lesley Manville (The Crown) and Tim McMullan (Patrick Melrose).
Set to land on BBC iPlayer and BBC One later this year, ‘Marble Hall Murders’ follows on from ‘Magpie Murders’ and ‘Moonflower Murders’, bringing Horowitz’s trilogy to a close. The six-part drama is once again written by Horowitz, with Rebecca Gatward directing after working on ‘Moonflower Murders’.
Returning in the central roles are Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread, The Crown) as editor-turned-sleuth Susan Ryeland, and Tim McMullan (The Crown, The Serpent) as literary detective Atticus Pünd. Newly announced cast members include Jamie Blackley (Outrageous, The Last Kingdom), Mark Bonnar (Ludwig, Guilt, Dept. Q), Daniel Cerqueira (This City is Ours, A Gentleman in Moscow), Patricia Hodge (All Creatures Great and Small, A Very English Scandal), Harry Lloyd (Game of Thrones, I, Jack Wright), Rupert Penry-Jones (Whitechapel, Spooks), Anneika Rose (Crossfire, Line of Duty), Danny Sapani (Killing Eve, Halo) and Zubin Varla (Andor, A Little Life).
Adapted from Horowitz’s third Susan Ryeland novel, published in 2025, the new series sees Susan hired to edit a continuation novel in the Atticus Pünd series, written by a troubled young author. What begins as a literary assignment quickly turns into another murder case, with Susan finding herself drawn in far deeper than expected, and this time as a suspect.
Inside the world of the manuscript itself, Atticus Pünd heads to Corfu, where he becomes entangled in the murder of Lady Margaret Chalfont and the secrets of her family, aided by a Greek detective. As with the previous dramas, that layered story-within-a-story setup looks set to be doing a lot of the heavy lifting again, which is really where these adaptations have had most of their fun.
The series is produced by Suzanne McAuley (Moonflower Murders, Lynley) and executive produced by Jill Green for Eleventh Hour Films. Filming took place in Dublin, Corfu and London.
‘Marble Hall Murders‘ does not yet have a premiere date but will air on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the UK. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
