‘Scrubs’ Revival Renewed For Season 2 At ABC

by Dave Elliott

ABC is keeping Scrubs on the charts for another year, renewing the revival for a second season and taking the comedy to an 11th season overall.

That is not hugely surprising, but it is still good news. Revivals are tricky things to pull off, particularly with a show as beloved and as oddly specific as Scrubs, which mixed silliness, heartbreak and full-blown daydream nonsense better than almost anything else on TV. The new run could easily have ended up feeling like a one-off nostalgia exercise. Instead, it clearly did enough to convince ABC that there is life in Sacred Heart yet.

The revival brought back Zach Braff (Alex, Inc.), Donald Faison (Clueless) and Sarah Chalke (Rick and Morty) as regulars, while also folding familiar faces back into the hospital corridors, including Judy Reyes (Claws), John C. McGinley (Stan Against Evil) and Robert Maschio (The Bold and the Beautiful). That gave the series a nice balance. It was never just about replaying the hits, but it also knew better than to pretend people were not turning up in part to spend time with these characters again.

ABC’s wider scripted picture is looking fairly settled now too. Alongside Scrubs, the network has also renewed Shifting Gears, 9-1-1, 9-1-1: Nashville, Abbott Elementary, Grey’s Anatomy, High Potential, The Rookie and Will Trent, so there is not much left on the board heading into the 2026-27 season. All of these air on Disney+ UK except The Rookie, which is on Sky Witness.

That leaves R.J. Decker as the main question mark. The Scott Speedman drama is still on the bubble, making it the one current ABC scripted series whose fate has yet to be confirmed. That show has not yet landed in the UK.
