Matt Bomer Joins Eddie Redmayne In ‘The Day Of The Jackal’ Season 2

The Day Of The Jackal has added another sharp-suited problem for Eddie Redmayne to deal with, as Matt Bomer (White Collar, Fellow Travelers) has joined the cast of Season 2.

According to Deadline, who broke the exclusive, Bomer will appear as a recurring character opposite Eddie Redmayne (The Theory Of Everything, Fantastic Beasts), although details about his role are being kept firmly under wraps. Deadline does, however, report that Bomer is believed to be playing a villain, which feels like exactly the sort of casting that could cause a great deal of beautifully dressed trouble.

Season 2 of ‘The Day Of The Jackal’ has now started production in Budapest, with Bomer joining fellow new additions Weruche Opia (I May Destroy You, High Desert) and Pablo Schreiber (Halo, Orange Is The New Black), who have both been cast as series regulars.

Based on the Frederick Forsyth novel and the 1973 film adaptation, ‘The Day Of The Jackal’ follows an unrivalled and highly elusive lone assassin, known as the Jackal, who makes his living carrying out hits for the highest bidder. The first season saw Redmayne take on the title role, with the drama updating the classic thriller for a modern world of surveillance, money, politics, and extremely questionable professional ethics.

The first season aired in November 2024 and was a major hit for Sky and Peacock. In the UK, it aired on Sky Atlantic and became the biggest-ever launch for a new Sky series, while also landing awards attention, including Golden Globe and SAG Award nominations.

Bomer is probably still best known to many as charming con artist Neal Caffrey in ‘White Collar’, but his more recent credits include ‘Fellow Travelers’, ‘Doom Patrol’, ‘Mid-Century Modern’, and the Apple TV film Outcome. He also won a Golden Globe for The Normal Heart, one of his many collaborations with Ryan Murphy.

‘The Day Of The Jackal’ is produced by Carnival Films, part of Universal International Studios, and commissioned by Sky Studios and Peacock. The series is executive produced by Gareth Neame, Nigel Marchant, Marianne Buckland, Eddie Redmayne, writer David Harrower, director Brian Kirk, Sam Hoyle, Sue Naegle, and Ronan Bennett, with Lis Steele producing.
