Sky has released the first teaser for ‘Possession’, a new five-part Sky Original supernatural thriller set between Bristol and Jamaica, starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Loki, Surface) as a lawyer drawn into an inheritance case with much darker roots than anyone expected.
The limited event series, formerly known as ‘Inheritance’, follows Claudia, an ambitious young biracial lawyer who travels to Jamaica to challenge an inheritance claim made by local man Cudjoe East against Oliver Connaught, a wealthy white aristocrat played by Jonny Lee Miller (The Crown, Elementary). What initially appears to be a legal dispute soon takes a far more unsettling turn when Claudia realises the estate at the centre of the case, Hope Hill, is the very place that has haunted her nightmares.
As Claudia and Oliver investigate further, they uncover a disturbing connection between the former plantation’s brutal past and the injustices still echoing through the present. Sky describes ‘Possession’ as a gripping supernatural thriller blending eerie mystery with the vibrant energy of Jamaica, as one woman is forced to confront long-buried secrets, questions of identity, and the past’s refusal to stay buried.
The series also stars Sheldon Shepherd (Bob Marley: One Love, Better Mus’ Come) as Cudjoe East, Bel Powley (A Small Light, The Morning Show) as Charlotte, Nadean Rawlins (Bob Marley: One Love, Sprinter) as Mercy, Sean Gilder (Mary & George, Slow Horses) as Tom McKenzie, Olunike Adeliyi (The Fire Inside, Mike) as Patsy Dawkins, Richard Dillane (Wolf Hall, The Crown) as Eugene Desfrienes, Diveen Henry (The Day of the Jackal, Manhunt) as Flora, Jack Bandeira (Happy Valley, Black Mirror) as Kenneth Connaught, Shantol Jackson (Death in Paradise, Yardie) as Sarah, Jeff Crossley (Bob Marley: One Love, Sprinter) as Angelo, and Safina Simpson as Betina.
‘Possession’ is created and written by Karla Crome (Something Very Bad is Going to Happen) and directed by Storm Saulter (Better Mus’ Come, Sprinter). The series is based on an original story created by Jefferson Bannis, and is produced by Snowed-In in association with Sky Studios.
