HBO Max has released the official trailer and key art for ‘Stuart Fails To Save The Universe’, the new Max Original comedy series set in the world of ‘The Big Bang Theory’, which lands this July.
The ten-episode series sees comic book store owner Stuart Bloom taking centre stage, which is honestly about as Stuart as you can get. After accidentally breaking a device built by Sheldon and Leonard, Stuart somehow manages to trigger a multiverse Armageddon, because apparently even off-screen Sheldon tech comes with a massive warning label.
Trying to help Stuart put reality back together are his girlfriend Denise, geologist friend Bert, and quantum physicist, and all-round professional irritant, Barry Kripke. Along the way, the gang run into alternate-universe versions of familiar characters from ‘The Big Bang Theory’. As the title rather strongly suggests, things do not exactly go smoothly.
The trailer also gives fans a better look at just how weird this spin-off is going. Rather than simply being another sitcom set around the comic book store, ‘Stuart Fails To Save The Universe’ appears to be going full sci-fi chaos, with multiverse oddities, apocalyptic weirdness, and a number of familiar faces from across the wider ‘Big Bang Theory’ universe.
The main cast sees Kevin Sussman (The Big Bang Theory) return as Stuart Bloom, alongside Lauren Lapkus (Orange Is the New Black) as Denise, Brian Posehn (The Sarah Silverman Program) as Bert, and John Ross Bowie (Speechless) as Barry Kripke.
The trailer also appears to tease a number of returning and familiar faces, including Wil Wheaton (Star Trek: The Next Generation), Joshua Malina (The West Wing), Christine Baranski (The Good Fight), Riki Lindhome (Another Period), Teller (Penn & Teller: Fool Us), and Penn Jillette (Penn & Teller: Fool Us), along with what looks like a cameo from Jon Cryer (Two and a Half Men).
The series comes from Chuck Lorre Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, and is created, written, and executive produced by Chuck Lorre, Zak Penn, and Bill Prady. Kyle Newacheck also executive produces and directs multiple episodes.
‘Stuart Fails To Save The Universe’ marks the fourth series in ‘The Big Bang Theory’ franchise, following the original series, prequel ‘Young Sheldon’, and sequel spin-off ‘Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage’. This one, though, looks like the strangest entry so far, taking a side character from the original sitcom and throwing him directly into reality-ending comic book nonsense. Which, frankly, feels about right for Stuart.
‘Stuart Fails To Save The Universe’ Season 1 premieres Friday, 24th July 2026 on HBO Max in the UK and Ireland, with new episodes debuting weekly on Fridays. The series airs Thursday, July 23rd 2026, on HBO Max in the USA.
