Rebecca Hall (The Beauty, The Listeners) has officially joined Netflix’s upcoming ‘The Secret of Secrets’ adaptation, playing Katherine Solomon opposite Morgan Spector (The Gilded Age, The Plot Against America) as famed Harvard professor and symbologist Robert Langdon.
The currently untitled mystery thriller is based on the latest novel in Dan Brown’s bestselling Robert Langdon series and will bring the puzzle-solving academic back to the screen for a new adventure involving ancient mysteries, futuristic science and a potentially world-changing discovery.
Hall’s character, Katherine Solomon, is a scientist and Langdon’s girlfriend in the novel. Her relationship with Langdon will apparently allow the series to explore a rather different side of the character than audiences have previously seen.
“For the first time ever, Robert Langdon has a serious love interest — and that changes many of the ways he sees the world,” commented co-creator and showrunner Carlton Cuse. “It’s an exciting evolution of the character.”
There is also a real-life connection behind the casting, as Hall and Spector are married. This will see the couple playing the central romantic pairing in Netflix’s new thriller.
The story follows Langdon as he races against ancient forces and the clock to rescue a missing scientist and recover her groundbreaking manuscript. Its contents could permanently alter humanity’s understanding of the human mind.
Netflix says the adaptation will blend futuristic science with mystical lore, while retaining the international intrigue, cryptic puzzles and enormous historical conspiracies associated with Brown’s novels. This particular mystery will take Langdon to Prague, giving him another impressive European backdrop through which to sprint while frantically decoding symbols.
“The chance to work with Dan Brown to bring Robert Langdon into a new chapter on screen is a genuine thrill,” said Cuse. “I was drawn in by the combination of exciting elements. It’s a propulsive thriller set in a fantastic location: Prague. It’s also a great love story, and a provocative exploration of human consciousness. The chance to tell a story that operated on so many different levels really excited me as a storyteller.”
Published in 2025, The Secret of Secrets is the sixth Robert Langdon novel, following Angels & Demons, The Da Vinci Code, The Lost Symbol, Inferno and Origin.
The character was previously played by Tom Hanks (Forrest Gump, Cast Away) in Ron Howard’s film adaptations of The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons and Inferno. Ashley Zukerman (Succession, Manhattan) later took over the role for the television adaptation of The Lost Symbol.
Cuse believes the longer television format will allow Netflix’s version of ‘The Secret of Secrets’ to explore more of the novel’s story and ideas than would be possible in a feature film.
“They’re incredibly propulsive. They’re also deeply thoughtful and full of big ideas. But they don’t fit easily into the two-hour movie form. The chance to adapt one as an eight-hour series felt like an opportunity to fully realize the breadth and scope of what Dan does on the screen in the best possible way.”
Cuse, whose previous television credits include Lost, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Locke & Key, Bates Motel and Five Days at Memorial, co-created the series with Brown and will serve as writer and showrunner.
Cuse and Brown executive produce alongside Emma Forman for Genre-Arts and Zoe Robyn. Netflix has not yet announced additional casting, a production timetable or an official title for the eight-part drama.
