The Devil of Hell’s Kitchen is heading towards his final bow, with ‘Daredevil: Born Again‘ reportedly set to end with its upcoming third season on Disney+.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the third season will be the last for the Marvel series. Production on the final run reportedly wrapped around two months ago, with the episodes currently in post-production ahead of their planned 2027 release.
Deadline has also confirmed the news, adding that members of the cast have now been informed that the third season will bring the show to an end.
Complicating matters slightly is the departure of showrunner Dario Scardapane. His contract expired and was not renewed, meaning he has left ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ while the final season is still being completed. It is currently unclear who will oversee the remaining post-production work, although one source claims the process is already in its final stages. Marvel has declined to comment.
The second season aired in spring 2026 and ended with Matt Murdock, played by Charlie Cox (Boardwalk Empire), being sent to prison following his escalating battle with New York Mayor Wilson Fisk, played by Vincent D’Onofrio (Law & Order: Criminal Intent). The season also brought back Krysten Ritter (Breaking Bad) as Jessica Jones, while Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead) continued his return as Frank Castle, aka The Punisher.
The Disney+ revival has endured a rather rocky journey behind the scenes. It was originally announced in 2022 as a single 18-episode season, before production stopped during the 2023 Hollywood strikes. Marvel subsequently ordered a major creative overhaul, replacing original head writers Matt Corman and Chris Ord with Scardapane and bringing in Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead as directors and executive producers.
That original order was eventually divided into two seasons containing 17 episodes in total, with nine forming the first season and eight making up the second.
The series initially appeared to be a major success for Disney+, delivering the platform’s biggest series premiere of 2025 with 7.5 million viewers worldwide during its first five days. However, further reports say that US viewing dropped by approximately 50 per cent for the second season, based on data from Luminate.
The ending also arrives as Marvel continues to reduce the number of live-action television projects it produces for Disney+. ‘VisionQuest’, billed as the final part of the ‘WandaVision’ trilogy, is due to premiere in October, while Disney+ previously reversed its decision to renew ‘Wonder Man’ for a second season.
There are currently no other Marvel live-action shows formally scheduled beyond the final season of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’, although the studio reportedly continues to keep between three and five projects in development. That includes a newly greenlit spy thriller currently codenamed ‘Zodiac’.
It certainly stings to see the series ending, but there is a more positive way of looking at it.
Netflix gave us three seasons of ‘Daredevil’ before cancelling it, and Disney+ has now delivered another three through ‘Daredevil: Born Again’. Six seasons overall is a pretty respectable run, particularly for a show that appeared completely dead back in 2018.
More importantly, Daredevil, Kingpin, The Punisher and the other characters are now firmly folded into the wider MCU, so the end of this particular series does not necessarily mean we have seen the last of them. They could continue popping up in other Marvel projects, while the door also remains open for another ensemble series featuring ‘The Defenders’. Marvel could even finally explore ‘Heroes for Hire’, which would be more Luke Cage and Iron Fist territory, but would still sit very comfortably within Daredevil’s corner of the MCU. Matt Murdock may be losing his own show again, but he is no longer trapped in Marvel’s television wilderness.
