There’s a treasure map, a voyage across the Atlantic and a crew whose loyalties look decidedly flexible. Paramount+ has released the trailer for ‘Treasure Island‘, a new six-part adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s adventure, arriving in the UK and Ireland this October.
Tom Sweet (Great Expectations) plays Jim Hawkins, who comes into possession of Captain Flint’s legendary treasure map alongside his fiercely determined mother, Bess, played by Hayley Atwell (Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Avengers: Doomsday). The discovery sends them aboard the Hispaniola in a race for riches, though getting to the treasure may prove easier than deciding whom to trust.
The biggest question mark is Long John Silver. David Oyelowo (Silo, Selma) plays the charismatic survivor, whose ambitions put him at the centre of Jim’s increasingly dangerous journey. Tomer Capone (The Boys, Fauda) joins the cast as Billy Bones, with Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire, Fargo) as Aaron Graham. Also aboard are Craige Els (Andor) as Mr Arrow, Tristan Sturrock (Poldark) as Captain Smollett and Neil Pendleton (Shetland) as Mr Cameron.
Robert Murphy (Vera, Shetland) created the series for television. Jeremy Lovering (Slow Horses), William McGregor (The Buccaneers) and Paul Walker (Shameless) direct. Playground produces the Paramount+ Original in association with MGM+ and FIFTH SEASON.
The trailer promises plenty of shifting alliances and deadly secrets as the hunt moves from ship to shore. Anyone planning to make friends on this expedition might want to check where they’ve hidden the map first.
