Could it be…
Syler is Spock!
![]()
News winging its way from ComicCon, that Zachary Quinto, better know as Syler in Heroes, is now locked to play young Spock in JJ Abrams new Star Trek movie, with old Spock being reprised by Leonard Nimoy. Producers are saying the new film will respect the Star Trek canon, and stick to the timeline. The film will fill in the time running up to Kirk gaining command of the Enterprise.
They are desperately looking for a way of putting The Shatner into the flick, but thats proving a little difficult due to old Kirk pushing up daisies. No news on casting of young Kirk yet… there are rumours of (god forbid) Robbie Williams(!) talking to JJ about the role, but i rather suspect (hope) they stay as rumours…
Movies of the summer… reviewed
Firstly, there is a huge amount of movies being released this summer. The summer blockbusters first kicked off with the sorely disappointing Spider-man 3, a film that for me didn’t even come close to reaching the expectations it had built up prior to release. Thankfully Marvel saved the day with Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, simply an excellent movie with great plot, action and effects.
Below, I shall review the first 3 major movies of this Summer.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
I enjoyed this film, I can’t really say much on whether it was true or not to the books (as I simply can’t bring myself to read them), but generally the film flowed at a nice pace, with action, plot twists and a nice conclusion leading to next movie. Therefore I’d rate this movie highly, and recommend it be seen.
Officially the next two films have the same UK release date, but as I saw an advanced preview of one, I’ll review that first.
Now, I can’t sing the praises of this film enough. I grew up with Transformers, and this movie has re-ignited that spark inside me to look at it all again. The film has great effects, stunning visuals, a strong cast and generally all the glitz a summer blockbuster should have. Running at well over 2 hours I can only say one negative thing, it was too short!!!
Ok, just seen this movie this very morning, and as a Homer fan I had high expectations… sadly, they were not reached. The film actually makes a joke towards the beginning about it being no different about watching it on tv, and that is exactly true. Big screen adaptions should not simply write a feature-length episode and throw it out on the cinema, more should be applied to the project. I have no doubt this movie will do well, when I saw it, many children in the cinema were laughing, but I laughed maybe 3 or 4 times in total.. It was very clever to release this film when the school holidays are on, as most of the ticket sales will be under 12s…
Well, that was a brief, personal review of the latest films I’ve seen. There are several more being released soon, including Ratatouille, Evan Almighty and Rush Hour 3. Its a good year for films, so with the dreadful rain we seem to be suffering with, get down your local cinema and enjoy a movie!

Who Watches the Watchmen?

UPDATE: See the offical Watchmen cast photos here!
This is the cast, with the addition of Jeffrey Dean Morgan as The Comedian.
In the run up to ComicCon few casting rumours cropping up regarding the Zak Snyder directed movie based on the Watchmen graphic novel (for those of you that haven’t read it, what the hell are you waiting for!)
IESB has the following as cast:

Rorschach to be played by Jackie Earle Haley

Adrian Veidt/Oxymandias to be played by Matthew Goode

Dr. Manhattan to be played by Billy Crudup

Silk Spectre (II) to be played by Malin Ackerman

The Night Owl (II) to be played by Patrick Wilson
Official announcements are expected at ComicCon where we get to see if IESB got it right. Other key roles there has been no word on yet are The Comedian, Hollis Mason/Nite Owl (I) and Sally Juspeczyk/Silk Spectre (I). I’m quite glad they seem to be casting lesser know actors for the lead roles though, rather than give in to the big names that have been allegedly chasing parts (e.g. Jude Law and Tom Cruise to name 2). Shaping up to be a very interesting looking film.
