New doctor Matt Smith has found his first travelling companion, and her name is Karen Gillan. Nope, never heard of her either, but i honestly don’t see that as a bad thing. At least there won’t be as much complaining as there was when Catherine Tate joined as the Doc’s sidekick (although i think she worked out pretty well), and i trust new head honcho Steven Moffat to pick someone that can act, and will work in his vision for the new series.

So what do we know about Karen…

She’s 21, she’s a redhead, she’s Scottish, from Inverness and she’s extremely easy on the eye! Like previous assistant Freema Agyeman, Karen has already appeared in Doctor Who in the episode The Fires Of Pompeii where she played a Soothsayer. She trained at the Italia Conti drama school in London and landed her first role in the Scottish drama Rebus, however Who is her largest role to date.

The new interestingly shaped headed Doctor might be a bit of an aquired taste for the ladies, but I think all the male Who fans will be more than happy.

Kuzui's first dire attempt at a Buffy movie.

Given that the only thing that didn’t suck in the 1992 Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie was the script, the idea of the producers/director rebooting (there’s that word again) Buffy without any direction from it’s founding visionary Joss Whedon, fills me with 7 different types of horror. But according to Hollywood Reporter, that’s exactly what Vertigo Entertainment along with original movie director Fran Rubel Kuzui and her huband Kaz Kuzui are apparently thinking of doing.

I know with the sucess of the Twilight movie vampires are hot property again, but do they honestly think ‘rebooting’ Buffy so soon after it was such a tv hit is a good idea? Someone really needs to point out to the Kuzui’s and Vertigo that just because you can do something, it doesn’t mean you should…

As Buffy alumni Tim Minear pointed out “…the main reason I do not want to see a movie done by these people without Joss… cause even with him the first time around the movie still had some major suckage.” The most appropriate remark i’ve seen on this subject though comes from web comic artist Neill Cameron – “This must be what religious people feel like when someone desecrates their holy text”.

I’d say this is looking pretty good. Plus it’s got the beautiful Morena Baccarin in it, so that alone has to make it worth watching.
