National Treasure: Book Of Secrets - Daryl's Review
Well, this film is a direct sequel to the first movie, and picks up following the crazy treasure hunting antics of Nicolas Cage and the original cast. The story is not solely based in the USA this time, with trips to Paris and London. The main story is about trying to clear the name of an ancestor by finding a treasure. Much like the first film, there is plenty of humour and some pretty incredible stunts and sets. Running just around 2 hours long, the film grabs your full attention and holds it throughout. If I have only one problem with the film, it is that i’m British… and the scenes in London, though enjoyable were almost offensive..

I’m sure you’re gonna hear alot of conflicting reviews about this film, one thing you might hear alot is how the movie can make some people nauseous, with the shaky camera style filming. The way the movie is filmed can cause some motion sickness, and I do suffer with that.. In fact, I found myself moving in my seat, people around of me must have thought I was hyper! lol The movie is fantastic, from the opening scenes I was hooked! To dispell one rumour, you see plenty of the Cloverfield during the movie, the title is the name designated to the creature(s) by the Department of Defense in the movie. Amazingly you become quickly attached to the main characters of the movie, and as you watch the night unfold and hope for the best for them. I really have no intention of ruining the movie for anyone, but I will say, the creature(s) in it are fantastic, and I am waiting impatiently for the official action figure being issued by Hasbro later this year! (be warned if you press that link, you’ll hear the creature!) If Hasbro are reading this, I’d love one of the figures… I’d happily review it, it could live on top of my pc! ha ha ha I’ve seen alot of monster movies, even some of the less well known ones, and this one takes the biscuit. I think the fact that you don’t actually see the monster entirely through the movie makes it even more frightening, much like the fantastic Alien, were not seeing what was killing the crew was scarier than seeing.

The Simpsons Movie - Daryl's Review
Ok, just seen this movie this very morning, and as a Homer fan I had high expectations… sadly, they were not reached. The film actually makes a joke towards the beginning about it being no different about watching it on tv, and that is exactly true. Big screen adaptions should not simply write a feature-length episode and throw it out on the cinema, more should be applied to the project. I have no doubt this movie will do well, when I saw it, many children in the cinema were laughing, but I laughed maybe 3 or 4 times in total.. It was very clever to release this film when the school holidays are on, as most of the ticket sales will be under 12s… Well, that was a brief, personal review of the latest films I’ve seen. There are several more being released soon, including Ratatouille, Evan Almighty and Rush Hour 3. Its a good year for films, so with the dreadful rain we seem to be suffering with, get down your local cinema and enjoy a movie!

Now, I can’t sing the praises of this film enough. I grew up with Transformers, and this movie has re-ignited that spark inside me to look at it all again. The film has great effects, stunning visuals, a strong cast and generally all the glitz a summer blockbuster should have. Running at well over 2 hours I can only say one negative thing, it was too short!!!

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix - Daryl's Review
I enjoyed this film, I can’t really say much on whether it was true or not to the books (as I simply can’t bring myself to read them), but generally the film flowed at a nice pace, with action, plot twists and a nice conclusion leading to next movie. Therefore I’d rate this movie highly, and recommend it be seen. Officially the next two films have the same UK release date, but as I saw an advanced preview of one, I’ll review that first.

Well, I’ve just come home from seeing Marvels’ latest comic-book adaption, Ghost Rider. No doubt people have seen the adverts on tv or on the cinema of this anticipated movie. Nicolas Cage stars as Johnny Blaze who sells his soul to the Devil and is cursed to become a demonic riding Bounty Hunter. Well, I really like Nicolas Cage (in my opinion his best role was Caster Troy in “Face-Off”), and I enjoy the character of Ghost Rider, his dark approach. Sadly this movie has been toned down a bit due to its (12a) certificate, and therefore the violence and content is less than satisfying in parts. Plus, for some reason Johnny Blaze now drinks Martini glasses full of Jelly Beans… a strange twist, which I’m told was conceived by Mr Cage himself… ok… lol The special effects are much better than the original screenshots that leaked of the movie last year during its production, and I really can only fault the first time he changes, as I almost burst out laughing. Its far from the best comic book movie made, and its not the worst either (The Hulk). Unfortunatly I have to say though, I enjoyed the adverts for Spider-man 3 and 300 more than I did the film! Go see it, but don’t expect a great movie, its a simple, brain off and popcorn movie.

Well, I went to the first performance of the heavily advertised Eragon today. I cringed as a rushed voice laid out the story so far even before the first actor had a chance to speak… The film generally is a poor mix of Star Wars and Lord Of The Rings, trying to be spectacular with its wide sweeping camera shots of nice scenary. The baby dragon sequence is good, but short lived, and the film then jumps around, much like if you had read the book and skipped large portions… Sadly just not the movie it could have been, but some nice things in it, and with a PG (Parental Guidance) rating may appeal to families over the holiday period.
