‘Blood Drive’ Cancelled By Syfy After One Season

Syfy US has canceled the wonderfully bonkers Blood Drive after 1 season the show’s creator has announced.

In a post on the ‘Midnight Grindhouse’ blog, creator James Roland said “Unfortunately, your suspicions are correct. Syfy has canceled Blood Drive after one season. If this news makes you angry or sad, you’re not alone. I found out not too long ago, but have been trying to think of a way to tell you guys since I felt it was up to me to let the fans know. Ultimately I decided to wait until after the final episode aired so the news did not taint your experience. It simply didn’t seem right to burst the bubble so early, especially with how the last episode plays out. We always planned for a season two, but now that the future of the show is uncertain the final scenes seem so much more… final.”

The Grindhouse inspired show was set in a “future” LA (1999), where water is as scarce as oil, climate change keeps the temperature at a cool 45C in the shade, and crime is running rampant. Arthur Bailey (Alan Ritchson – ‘Smallville’, ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’), the last good cop among a horde of corrupt officials, is investigating the dirtiest and meanest underground car rally in the world – The Blood Drive – so called as all the cars run on human blood! After crashing the launch event, Arthur is forced to join the race and teamed up with Grace D’Argento (Christina Ochoa – ‘Animal Kingdom’, ‘Valor’), a femme fatale character who is determined to win at any cost.

Fans had somewhat expected the show may come to an end, not only because it’s numbers weren’t great, but also because Christina Ochoa, one of the 2 main leads, had got a lead role in The CW’s upcoming helicopter drama Valor.

Whilst here at Geektown we’re sad to see it go, as Roland says, “despite canceling us, Syfy was the only network with the steel to make the show in the first place,” and we do agree they should be applauded for that. He continues “I’m bummed that Blood Drive didn’t pay off for them the way they wanted but I can’t believe we got away with a full season of the CRAZIEST show on TV.”

Blood Drive‘ aired on Syfy in the UK.
