Nathan Fillion Lands Lead Role On ABC Dramedy ‘The Rookie’

‘Castle’ and ‘Firefly’ star Nathan Fillion is back working with cops in new ABC show The Rookie which has landed a straight-to-series order at the network.

Written by ‘Castle’ and ‘The Following’ producer/writer Alexi Hawley, Fillion will play John Nolan, the oldest rookie in the LAPD. Based on a true story, it sees the middle-aged Nolan uproot himself from his provincial, small-town life, and move to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of becoming a cop. Joining the other rookie cops, most of which are 20 years younger than himself, he must navigate his way through the often dangerous, and sometimes humorous, new career choice, to make his second shot at life count.

The show comes from The Mark Gordon Company (‘Designated Survivor’, ‘Quantico’, ‘Ray Donovan’) and ABC Studios, with Hawley and Fillion exec producing alongside Michelle Chapman and Jon Steinberg.

Has to be said, this doesn’t sound massively dissimilar to the style of role Fillion played on ‘Castle’, but that’s no bad thing. He does these sort of dramedy parts so well, plus we’re always happy to have Nathon back on our screens!

Still way to early for news of a UK air date for The Rookie yet, as the show doesn’t air in the US until 2018, but we’ll let you know when we hear more!
