Universal Adds ‘The Resident’, Sky One Takes ‘S.W.A.T.’

We kick off the week with 2 new UK pickups of US dramas! Universal Channel has taken the rights to medical drama The Resident, whilst Sky One has landed the broadcast rights to LA police drama S.W.A.T.

‘The Resident’ stars Matt Czuchry (‘Gilmore Girls’, ‘The Good Wife’) as an idealistic young doctor begins his first day eager to save lives. Under the supervision of a tough, brilliant senior resident, he’ll soon discover his chosen profession is not what he imagined and that ethical lines are often blurred. Series also stars Emily VanCamp (‘Revenge’), Manish Dayal (‘Halt and Catch Fire’), Moran Atias (’24: Legacy’), Merrin Dungey (‘Big Little Lies’) and Shaunette Renée Wilson (‘Billions’) with Melina Kanakaredes (‘CSI: NY’, ‘Providence’) and Bruce Greenwood (‘The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story’, ‘Mad Men’).

‘S.W.A.T.’ stars Shemar Moore (‘Criminal Minds’) as a locally born and raised S.W.A.T. sergeant newly tasked to run a specialized tactical unit that is the last stop in law enforcement in Los Angeles. Torn between loyalty to where he was raised and allegiance to his brothers in blue, former Marine Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson has everything it takes to be an excellent leader and bridge the divide between his two worlds.

Hondo’s elite unit includes David “Deacon” Kay (Jay Harrington – ‘Suits’, ‘Better Off Ted’), an experienced S.W.A.T. officer who always puts the team first, despite feeling overlooked for the lead job; Jim Street (Alex Russell – ‘Chronicle’), a cocky but promising new member of the group; Christina “Chris” Alonso (Lina Esco – ‘Flaked’, ‘Kingdom’), a skilled officer and the team’s canine trainer; and Dominique Luca (Kenny Johnson – ‘Secrets and Lies’, ‘Bates Motel’), an expert driver who gets them in and out of high risk situations. Overseeing the unit is Jessica Cortez (Stephanie Sigman – ‘Narcos’, ‘The Bridge’), the captain of L.A. Metro who values her job above all else, including her off-the-books relations with Hondo.

Sky One hasn’t set a UK air date yet for ‘S.W.A.T.‘ but we’ll you know when they announce something. Universal Channel has said ‘The Resident‘ will arrive in April 2018.
