New Doctor, New Sonic Screwdriver as the BBC releases the first full trailer of Doctor Who Series 11 featuring Jodie Whittaker.

It’s all change in front of and behind the camera as the ‘Broadchurch’ star takes the leading role, along with three new companions. Bradley Walsh, who will be playing Graham, whilst Tosin Cole takes the role of Ryan and Mandip Gill has landed the role of Yasmin.

Behind the camera, ‘Broadchurch’s’ Chris Chibnall takes over the running of the show. “The new Doctor is going to need new friends,” commented Chibnall. “We’re thrilled to welcome Mandip, Tosin and Bradley to the Doctor Who family. They’re three of Britain’s brightest talents and we can’t wait to see them dive into brand new adventures with Jodie’s Doctor. Alongside them, we’re delighted that Sharon D Clarke is also joining the show.”

Clarke (‘Holby City’, ‘Psychobitches’, ‘The Singing Detective’) has landed a returning role in the new series, although her character has not been named.

At the SDCC panel today, Chibnall also revealed we will be getting the traditional Christmas Special this year. Whatsmore, that will be on top of the 10 episodes already coming in Season 11, so we’ll have lots of Who to look forward to!

“I felt if I was very much in someone else’s shoes,” commented Whittaker at the SDCC panel, about her first days in the Tardis, “which is an amazing way to start this journey.”

Expect some musical changes this year as well, with  Royal Birmingham Conservatoire alumni Segun Akinola taking over that job from Murray Gold, who decided to step down last year.

The new series of Doctor Who will be a 10 week run (followed by a Christmas Special) of 50-minute episodes starting in Autumn 2018, and will kick off with a feature-length hourlong opening episode.
