Netflix Sets June Premiere Date For ‘Designated Survivor’ Season 3

by Dave Elliott

Kiefer Sutherland returns as President this June, as Designated Survivor Season 3 arrives on Netflix UK and worldwide.

‘Designated Survivor’ stars Kiefer Sutherland as Tom Kirkman, the US Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, who is nominated as the “Designated Survivor” (i.e. a member of government kept separate from everyone in case there is a terrible accident) during the State Of The Union address. When an explosion in Washington kills the current President and entire cabinet, Tom is thrust into the top job as Commander In Chief, a position for which he’s woefully underprepared.

As Season 3 begins, President Kirkman will face a political reality… campaigning. What does it take to make a leader? What price will he be willing to pay? The season will explore today’s world of campaigning, smear tactics, debates, campaign finance and “fake news.” Democracy, as we know it, will hang in the balance.

Kiefer is joined by Adan Canto as Aaron Shore, Italia Ricci as Emily Rhodes, Tanner Buchanan as Leo Kirkman, LaMonica Garrett as Mike Ritter, Maggie Q as Hannah Wells, and Kal Penn as Seth Wright.

Although the show has always aired on Netflix in the UK, it originally aired on Fox in the US. Fox cancelled the series last year, but it was rescued by Netflix as a Netflix Original series for a 10-episode 3rd season, which will air on the streaming service on both sides of the Atlantic.

Season 3 sees Neal Baer from global studio Entertainment One (eOne) taking over as showrunner, with Baer and creator David Guggenheim exec producing. Mark Gordon, Kiefer Sutherland, Suzan Bymel, Simon Kinberg, Aditya Sood, and Peter Noah also EP.

Designated Survivor‘ Season 3 premieres Friday 7th June 2019 on Netflix UK and around the world.
