The CW Releases Trailers For ‘Batwoman’, ‘Katy Keene’ & ‘Nancy Drew’

The CW Upfront has just ended, and the US network immediately released three new trailers online. One for the upcoming Arrowverse show Batwoman, Lucy Hale fronted ‘Riverdale’ spin-off Katy Keene, and their adaptation of the Nancy Drew novels. They also dropped in some “first look” clips of scenes too!

Batwoman

Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane (Ruby Rose) soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a saviour, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.

Joining Ruby Rose (‘Orange Is The New Black’) as Kate Kane/Batwoman, are Camrus Johnson (‘Luke Cage’) as Luke Fox/Batwing, Meagan Tandy (‘Teen Wolf’) as Kate’s ex-girlfriend, Sophie Moore, & Nicole Kang (‘YOU’) as Kate’s step-sister, Mary Hamilton. Rachel Skarsten (‘Lost Girl’, ‘Reign’) has also recently been added as villain Alice, leader of the Wonderland Gang, and Dougray Scott (‘Mission: Impossible II’, ‘Fear The Walking Dead’) as Kate’s father, Jacob Kane.

The pilot came from writer/producer Caroline Dries (‘The Vampire Diaries’,  ‘Smallville’), who wrote the crossover episode this year which featured the character. Dries will exec-produce with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns, David Nutter and director Marcos Siega.

In addition to the trailer above, they also released this “first look” clip:

Katy Keene

Katy Keene‘ is a musical dramedy centred on the lives and loves of four iconic Archie Comics characters, including fashion legend-to-be Katy Keene and singer/songwriter Josie (of the Pussycats) McCoy (played again by ‘Riverdale’s Ashleigh Murray), as they chase their twenty-something dreams in New York City. This story chronicles the origins and struggles of four aspiring artists trying to make it on Broadway, on the runway and in the recording studio.

Lucy Hale (‘Pretty Little Liars’) stars as the twenty-something New Yorker who aspires to be a fashion designer. When she’s not working as a personal shopper at a luxury department store, she’s navigating friendship and dating in the big city. Her world is populated with kindred-spirit starving artists, including mysterious socialite Pepper Smith (Julia Chan – ‘Saving Hope’) and Broadway-bound performer Jorge Lopez – and his drag queen alter-ego, Ginger (Jonny Beauchamp – ‘Penny Dreadful’).

The show comes from ‘Riverdale’ creator Robert Aguirre-Sacasa and ‘Riverdale’ co-executive producer Michael Grassi. It is exec produced by Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Jon Goldwater (Archie Comics CEO and Publisher).

Nancy Drew

Nancy Drew is set in the summer after high school graduation when the 18-year-old Nancy (newcomer Kennedy McMann) thought she’d be leaving her hometown for college. But when a family tragedy holds her back another year, she finds herself embroiled in a ghostly murder investigation – and along the way, uncovers secrets that run deeper than she ever imagined.

The series comes from the duo behind ‘Gossip Girl’ & ‘Runaways’, Josh Schwartz & Stephanie Savage. Schwartz & Savage will serve as exec producers alongside Melinda Hsu Taylor and Lis Rowinski. ‘The Magicians’ writer Noga Landau penned the pilot script.

In addition to the trailer above, they also released this “first look” clip:

We have no idea yet where Nancy Drew may end up in the UK. Katy Keene may go to Netflix to sit with ‘Riverdale’, but that is not at all guaranteed. We’d be extremely surprised if Sky One let Batwoman go to anyone else, but we have no confirmation yet if they will pick it up. We’ll let you know when we hear something.
