DC’s ‘Blue Beetle’ Film Gets A Surprisingly Entertaining Trailer

Is it me, or does this give off some serious 'Ant-Man' vibes?

Warner Bros has released a trailer for their upcoming DC movie ‘Blue Beetle’ which is set to land in cinemas this Summer, and it looks surprisingly fun!

The movie follows recent college grad Jaime Reyes (Xolo Maridueña), who returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armour capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Superhero, Blue Beetle.

Starring alongside Maridueña (“Cobra Kai”) are Adriana Barraza (“Rambo: Last Blood,” “Thor”), Damían Alcázar (“Narcos,” “Narcos: Mexico”), Elpidia Carrillo (“Mayans M.C.,” the “Predator” films), Bruna Marquezine (“Maldivas,” “God Save the King”), Raoul Max Trujillo (the “Sicario” films, “Mayans M.C.”), with Oscar winner Susan Sarandon (“Monarch,” “Dead Man Walking”), and George Lopez (the “Rio and “Smurf” franchises). The film also stars Belissa Escobedo (“American Horror Stories,” “Hocus Pocus 2”) and Harvey Guillén (“What We Do in the Shadows”).

The movie is one of the four films in the DC slate leftover from before James Gunn and Peter Safran took over as co-heads of DC Studios. However, ‘Blue Beetle’ is a brand new character to the screen, and premieres post ‘The Flash’, which is due to land on June 16, 2023, and is set to act as a giant “reset” button for the DC Cinematic Universe. How well this performs will likely determine whether we see more of the character in future.

Angel Manuel Soto (“Charm City Kings,” “The Farm”) directs from a screenplay by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (“Miss Bala”), based on characters from DC. John Rickard and Zev Foreman produce, with Walter Hamada, Galen Vaisman and Garrett Grant serving as executive producers. The film is a Warner Bros. Pictures Presentation and a Safran Company Production.

‘Blue Beetle’ will perform a superhero landing in cinemas on the 18th of August 2023.
