Geektown Awards – Best Animated Series 2023

by Dave Elliott

Next up we have Best Animated Series. Previously, we’ve had best new and returning animated series, but this year, there really weren’t enough shows in each category to justify it, so we combined them into one. You may notice, ‘The Simpsons’ is not on the list. That is because it had got to a point similar to Ant & Dec winning the “Ant & Dec” award at the TV Awards every year. So this year, we’re giving ‘The Simpsons’ a special Platinum Award, meaning it will always sit on top of the category without needing to enter. We’re also handing a Platinum Award to ‘Family Guy’, which always took the silver behind Homer and his family.  However, here are the nominees and winners for bronze, silver and gold.

Nominees: Bob’s Burgers, Season 13 – Disney+; Critical Role: The Legend of Vox Machina, Season 2 – Prime Video; Futurama, Season 11 – Disney+; Invincible, Season 2 – Prime Video; My Adventures With Superman, Season 1 – Channel 4; Rick and Morty, Season 7 – E4; Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, Season 1 – Netflix; Solar Opposites, Season 4 – Disney+; Star Trek: Lower Decks, Season 4 – Paramount+; Star Wars: The Bad Batch, Season 2 – Disney+

Bronze: Bob’s Burgers, Season 13 – Disney+

Silver: Futurama, Season 11 – Disney+

Gold Winner: Rick and Morty, Season 7 – E4

They may sound a little different (although not as much as you might think!), but ‘Rick and Morty’ are back to reclaim the top spot with its 7th Season. Not even the return of Matt Groening’s other show, ‘Futurama’, could beat the sociopathic genius scientist and his grandson. I have a feeling the duo might end up with a Platinum award themselves in the future!
