Paramount+ UK Sets April Premiere Date For 3rd & Final Season Of ‘La Brea’

The wonderfully entertaining (and slightly bonkers) series returns

Paramount+ UK has set an April UK premiere date for the 3rd and final season of the wonderfully entertaining (and slightly bonkers) time-travelling adventure series La Brea.

For those of you who haven’t yet caught the show, the epic family adventure begins after a massive sinkhole opens in Los Angeles pulling people and buildings into a mysterious and dangerous primaeval land where they have no choice but to band together to survive. Since then, we’ve had more time-jumping, mad scientific experiments, and (of course) dinosaurs…

As we head into the final season, the end of an era begins as the survivors stranded in the past fight for one last chance to return home. After delving deeper into the mysteries of the primaeval world, the Harris family must race against time to find Eve. The stakes are higher than ever as they face the most dangerous prehistoric creatures yet – with one shot to reunite and get back to the world they once knew.

This final season is a much shorter run of only six episodes, although it does have a proper conclusion. This is due in part to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. When it became apparent that the strikes were likely to go ahead last year, Universal Television (who make the show) were concerned they wouldn’t be able to shoot all the required episodes prior to the strike action. The issue was that the series regular cast were contracted to be paid for ten episodes regardless of how many were actually filmed, and were likely under contract for around six seasons. So Universal got permission to approach the cast with a deal – if the cast would agree to reduce their contractual minimum to six episodes for season three, they would release them from their series contract, allowing them to go out and audition for other roles, rather than have to wait around and see if the show would be renewed (which was very much “50/50” at the time.) The cast agreed, but that pretty much meant the end of the show as the leading cast were no longer under contract to the series.

The cast includes Natalie Zea, Eoin Macken, Jon Seda, Nicholas Gonzalez, Chiké Okonkwo, Zyra Gorecki, Jack Martin, Veronica St. Clair, Rohan Mirchandaney, Lily Santiago, Josh McKenzie, Tonantzin Carmelo and Michelle Vergara Moore.

Creator/showrunner David Appelbaum executive produces with Avi Nir, Alon Shtruzman, Peter Traugott, Rachel Kaplan, Chris Hollier, Adam Davidson, Bryan Wynbrandt, Steven Lilien, Ken Woodruff and Arika Lisanne Mittman. ‘La Brea’ is produced by Universal Television and Australia’s Matchbox Pictures, both divisions of Universal Studio Group, in association with Keshet Studios.

La Brea‘ Season 3 premieres Thursday 18th April 2024 on Paramount+ UK with all six episodes dropping as a boxset.

On a side note, as I know people may ask, the first seasons of two of Paramount+’s other UK imports – Quantum Leap and The Accused – which were previously removed from Paramount+ UK in “the purge” back in February have now reappeared on the service. Whether that means the second seasons of those shows will also be added is anyone’s guess, but at least you can continue watching those first seasons if you were cut off halfway through!
