In another bit of ‘Dexter’ news which I missed in the article yesterday (I blame my jet lag!) Michael C. Hall is not only returning as a voice in the upcoming prequel ‘Dexter: Original Sin’, but they also announced a new sequel series, ‘Dexter: Resurrection‘, which will see Mr. Hall back as everyone’s favourite serial killer… The question is, how?
The new series will be a sequel to ‘Dexter: New Blood’, which introduced Dexter’s grown-up son Harrison (Jack Alcott), Harrison has managed to track down his father, who has been hiding out in the small town of Iron Lake, New York for the past ten years after faking his death. As the father and son get to know each other, Dexter begins to see that Harrison has the same “dark passenger” as himself, and the same murderous instincts. The series ends (SPOILERS) with Harrison apparently killing his father… but did he?
Given the title of the new show is ‘Dexter: Resurrection’, that seems to imply that Dexter somehow survived Harrison shooting him, however, when the show ended creator and showrunner Clyde Phillips stated categorically that Dexter Morgan was dead. Has Philips changed his mind on that? Or could it be that the show will follow Harrison, with Dexter taking up the role of Harrison’s “mental guide”, in the same way Dexter saw visions of his father Harry? So far, everyone involved in the project are keeping their cards close to their chests.
In an interview after the announcement (above), the interviewer questions Michael C. Hall about the fact that it was confirmed by Phillips that Dexter was dead, to which he replied “Was it?..” Pushing for a little more, all he would say was “I don’t know what I am authorized to say other than, it’s really cold out there,” which somewhat suggests that Dexter survived. He also commented that the new sequel, he thinks, will pick up right after the end of ‘New Blood’.
‘Dexter: Resurrection‘ is set to film in January 2025, with a planned Summer 2025 release date on Paramount+ with Showtime in the USA, and (presumably) Paramount+ UK. If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add it via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
