‘Black Mirror‘ Season 7 will not only have a sequel to the classic, USS Callister, but Netflix has announced an impressive cast lineup which includes Paul Giamatti, Peter Capaldi, Emma Corrin, Awkwafina, Chris O’Dowd, Jimmi Simpson, and a ton more people!
Charlie Brooker’s dark, satirical anthology series taps into our collective unease with the modern world, with each stand-alone episode a sharp, suspenseful tale exploring themes of contemporary techno-paranoia. Without questioning it, technology has transformed all aspects of our lives; in every home; on every desk; in every palm – a plasma screen; a monitor; a Smartphone – a Black Mirror reflecting our 21st Century existence back at us.
The lineup for season seven, which was announced today via a very Black Mirror-esque “data drop”, includes:
Awkwafina (Jackpot!), Milanka Brooks (Mum And I Don’t Talk Anymore), Peter Capaldi (Criminal Record, Doctor Who), Emma Corrin (The Crown, Deadpool & Wolverine), Patsy Ferran (Firebrand), Paul Giamatti (The Holdovers, Billions), Lewis Gribben (Blade Runner 2099), Osy Ikhile (Citadel), Rashida Jones (Sunny), Siena Kelly (Domino Day), Billy Magnussen (Road House, No Time to Die), Rosy McEwen (Blue Jean), Cristin Milioti (The Penguin), Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids, Moone Boy, The Big Door Prize), Issa Rae (Barbie), Paul G. Raymond (Horrible Histories), Tracee Ellis Ross (Black-ish), Jimmi Simpson (Westworld), and Harriet Walter (Succession).
As is quite normal for the show, the creative team aren’t giving away any specifics about the new series, except the previously revealed confirmation that the show will have its first sequel episode – a follow-up to Season 4’s critically acclaimed USS Callister.
That episode was a rather dark and twisted take on ‘Star Trek’, starring Jesse Plemons as Robert Daly, an exceptionally talented yet emotionally conflicted programmer who co-founded a widely acclaimed online video game. Feeling undervalued within his gaming company, Robert devised an intricate virtual world within the game, casting himself as a charismatic leader akin to Captain Kirk aboard a starship, with his loyal crew… modelled after his real-life colleagues. However, this is ‘Black Mirror’, so, of course, things take a very sinister turn! Whilst (SPOILERS) Captain Robert Daly died in the original episode, in the sequel, the problems are just beginning for the remaining crew of the USS Callister…
Written and created by Charlie Brooker, ‘Black Mirror’ is exec produced by Brooker, Jessica Rhoades, Annabel Jones, Bisha K. Ali. The series is produced by Brooker & Jones’ Broke & Bones, under license from Banijay Rights.
‘Black Mirror‘ Season 7 is now in production, but will not premiere until 2025 on Netflix worldwide. If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add it via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
