Developers Unknown Worlds have announced ‘Subnautica 2‘ will launch into Early Access on both PC and XBox in 2025, along with releasing the first teaser trailer for the game, which features a new world, new adventure, and optional multiplayer!
Despite being called ‘Subnautica 2’, this is actually the third game in the series following 2018’s ‘Subnautica’, and 2019’s ‘Subnautica: Below Zero’. The original action-adventure survival game saw you take control of a lone survivor of a spaceship which crashes onto a remote ocean planet. Starting with only a small escape pod and a hand replicator, you have to scour the depths of the ocean to find resources to build yourself a means to survive, and ultimately, escape. All whilst avoiding the hostile wildlife, and discovering the mystery behind what made you crash in the first place.
In ‘Subnautica 2’, a new world awaits alongside an all-new story. You are a pioneer travelling to a distant world, but something is amiss. The ship’s AI insists you carry on the mission. This world is too dangerous for humans to survive… Unless you change what it means to be human. What creatures, intelligent or otherwise, await your arrival?
Like the first game, you have your basic tools, such as the Scanner and Flashlight, and you’ll be able to find recipes for more new and advanced tools, equipment, and submersibles. You can also build bases again, but they promise to be more customizable with an overhauled building system.
This new world will be full of brand new biomes, from towering underwater cliffs to lush coral fields, and mysterious lifeforms, from tiny fish to terrifying Leviathans. However, something isn’t right. The world is out of balance. What happened here? What happened to you? And more importantly, where are you?..
However, this time around, you won’t have to explore the deep oceans on your own (although, you absolutely can if you want to!) There is a new multiplayer option, which allows you to play with up to three friends in online multiplayer co-op.
I personally, LOVED both the original ‘Subnautica’, and ‘Subnautica: Below Zero’, so I can’t wait to dive back into the deep oceans of a new alien world in ‘Subnautica 2’.
‘Subnautica 2‘ will launch in 2025 in early access on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store) and Xbox Series S/X. It will also be available to Game Pass subscribers from day one.
