Welcome back to another packed week of TV chatter on Geektown Radio! In episode 456, Dave is joined by Matt from Entertainment Talk to break down some of the biggest shows currently streaming, returning fan-favourites, and upcoming series news. Here’s what went down:
Spotlight on “Time” Season 2: Bella Ramsey & Jodie Whittaker Shine
Matt dives deep into the BBC drama Time (season 2), starring The Last of Us’ Bella Ramsey and former Doctor Who Jodie Whittaker. The season centres on three women in prison, grappling with motherhood and redemption. Jodie’s character’s backstory is particularly emotional, and Bella’s performance in a much more mature role offers a glimpse of what she’ll bring to The Last of Us season 2.
“It’s short, sweet, and hits hard. Just three episodes with a solid story arc.”
Dave agrees, noting the anthology structure with no overlap from season one (which featured Sean Bean and Stephen Graham), making it easy to jump into either season.
Daredevil: Born Again – The Kingpin Returns
The guys are loving Daredevil: Born Again, especially Vincent D’Onofrio’s return as Kingpin. Matt praises the villain’s intense, dialogue-heavy presence and compares him to the likes of Giancarlo Esposito and Jeffrey Wright — “intimidating just with their words.”
They also highlight standout episodes, including a bank heist and a surprise appearance, while Dave touches on the MCU integration and how the show balances action and character.
“Some forget how detailed Matt’s powers are. This season really showcases them.”
Doctor Who’s Second Season with Ncuti Gatwa
Doctor Who is back! Dave praises the strong start to season two of Ncuti Gatwa’s run, especially the clever setup of the new companion, who’s unwillingly thrust into time-traveling due to circumstances outside her control.
Matt’s just one episode behind and reflects on the shifting season numbering (“Season 14 / Season 2?”), but both are excited about Russell T. Davies’ vision and the intriguing mysteries teased in the opener.
The Last of Us Season 2 – A Bold New Beginning
Matt stayed up for the 2 a.m. premiere and immediately podcasted his spoiler-free reaction. He describes it as a “calm before the storm” opener — echoing the tone of the second game’s early hours.
There’s a lot of brand-new content not seen in the game, including therapy scenes, new characters, and deeper exploration of Jackson. Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal are phenomenal once again, with Isabella’s portrayal of Dina earning special praise.
“When they got to the game scenes? Spot-on. The dance scene was just perfection.”
Dave, who hasn’t played the second game, found it engaging and mysterious, intrigued by the relationship tension and how the plot will unfold.
Black Mirror – Back to Form
Dave has watched the first three episodes of the latest Black Mirror season and is calling it a return to classic form. He highlights:
-
“Common People” starring Chris O’Dowd and Rashida Jones – a brain-implant drama with typical Black Mirror twists.
-
“Hotel Riviere” featuring AI actors in a recreated old film.
-
A strong trio of opening episodes with classic techno-dystopia themes.
Matt admits he never finished the last season but might return now based on Dave’s glowing review.
