On this week’s Geektown Radio podcast, Matt is back in the co-host chair as we dive headfirst into a rage-fuelled infection, a chaotic charity football match, and the return of one of the best Trek shows in years, all before we take a short summer break.
Matt Finally Sees ‘28 Days Later’, Just In Time for ’28 Years Later’!
Despite being a massive zombie fan who’s devoured everything from The Walking Dead to Dawn of the Dead and The Last of Us, Matt had somehow never seen ’28 Days Later’… until now. In fairness, the film came out 23 years ago, and he was still a kid at the time, but this horror classic has been haunting his watchlist ever since.
Directed by Danny Boyle and written by Alex Garland, 28 Days Later remains a standout of the genre, and Matt gives it a big thumbs-up as a “must-see.” We discuss its terrifyingly fast, rage-infected not-quite-zombies, those eerily empty London streets, and how it arguably helped pave the way for shows like The Walking Dead. With Cillian Murphy, Naomie Harris, and Christopher Eccleston in the lead roles, and the long-awaited third film, ’28 Years Later’, arriving this month, there’s never been a better time to revisit this British apocalyptic masterpiece.
Boldly Going into ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Season 3
Dave has seen the first five episodes of the brand-new season of ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’, and the good news is that it’s still brilliant. From fast-paced Gorn invasions to light-hearted Spock romance, Hollywood murder mysteries to planet-hopping adventures, this season continues to strike that perfect Trek balance of action, humour, and heartfelt sci-fi. We preview the returning crew, some guest stars (hello, Rhys Darby), and tease just how mad the Jonathan Frakes-directed episode gets.
The Alters: A Sci-Fi Gem You Might’ve Missed
In the gaming corner, Dave highlights ‘The Alters’, a narrative-driven sci-fi survival game where you’re stuck alone on a hostile planet… until you start cloning alternate versions of yourself to survive. With stunning visuals, clever base-building, and a psychologically rich story, it’s one of the most intriguing and original indie titles of the year. Think Moon meets The Martian with a sprinkle of multiverse existential crisis.
Bella Ramsey Plays Left Midfield? Welcome to Soccer Aid 2025!
Only at Soccer Aid can you find Bella Ramsey (The Last of Us) passing to Wayne Rooney, while Carlos Tevez plays like it’s a Champions League final, and Paddy McGuinness forgets to use his arms in goal. Matt recaps the ridiculous highlights of this year’s charity football match, from celebs and legends to a second-half collapse that no one saw coming. It’s weird, chaotic, and utterly wonderful.
