‘Dark Matter’ Season 2 Trailer Sends The Dessens Back On The Run As Official Podcast Launches

by Dave Elliott

Apple TV has unveiled the trailer for Dark Matter Season 2 at San Diego Comic-Con, teasing another dangerous journey through the Box when the sci-fi thriller returns this August.

The trailer debuted during the show’s Hall H panel, with Joel Edgerton (The Underground Railroad) and Jennifer Connelly (Snowpiercer) returning as Jason and Daniela Dessen. The 10-episode season will launch with one episode, followed by a new instalment every Friday through October.

Season 1 saw physicist and family man Jason abducted into an alternate version of his life, forcing him to navigate a multiverse filled with the paths he could have taken as he fought to return home.

Season 2 begins with the Dessen family attempting to settle into a quiet life in a world that finally appears safe. Naturally, that peace does not last for long.

When an unimaginable threat forces them to run once again, Jason’s obsession with the Box grows deeper, while Daniela’s increasing paranoia pushes her towards breaking point. Their son Charlie, played by Oakes Fegley (The Goldfinch), is left desperately searching for some sense of stability as the family once again finds itself under threat.

Elsewhere, Amanda and Ryan join forces in a desperate attempt to find their way home. Blair is determined to stop Leighton, who is relentlessly pursuing his grand vision of creating a perfect world. Given the Box’s track record, that probably will not go quite as smoothly as he hopes.

Alongside Joel Edgerton (The Underground Railroad), Jennifer Connelly (Snowpiercer) and Oakes Fegley (The Goldfinch), the returning ensemble includes Alice Braga (Queen of the South) as Amanda, Jimmi Simpson (Westworld) as Ryan, Dayo Okeniyi (Shades of Blue) as Leighton and Amanda Brugel (The Handmaid’s Tale) as Blair.

‘Dark Matter’ is based on the bestselling novel by Blake Crouch, who created the television adaptation and serves as showrunner. Crouch executive produces alongside Matt Tolmach, Richard Lederer and Jacquelyn Ben-Zekry, with Joel Edgerton (The Underground Railroad) and Jennifer Connelly (Snowpiercer) also serving as executive producers. Sony Pictures Television produces the drama for Apple TV.

The new season also expands the world of ‘Dark Matter’ with the launch of ‘Dark Matter: The Official Podcast’.

Hosted by Crouch and Ben-Zekry, the companion podcast will explore the biggest moments from each episode, the science behind the multiverse, the creative process and how the television series moves beyond Crouch’s original novel.

A special catch-up episode will arrive ahead of the Season 2 premiere, recapping the key events from Season 1. New podcast episodes will then be released alongside each instalment of the series.

Guests will include Joel Edgerton (The Underground Railroad), Jennifer Connelly (Snowpiercer), Alice Braga (Queen of the South), Jimmi Simpson (Westworld), Amanda Brugel (The Handmaid’s Tale), Dayo Okeniyi (Shades of Blue), Margo Martindale (The Americans), Oakes Fegley (The Goldfinch) and Chris Diamantopoulos (Silicon Valley), alongside members of the creative team and some surprise superfans.

‘Dark Matter: The Official Podcast’ will be available through Apple Podcasts, the Sony Pictures Television YouTube channel and the Apple TV YouTube channel.

Dark Matter Season 2 premieres Friday, 28th August 2026 on Apple TV.
