Somehow, ‘Futurama’ has found yet another way to avoid being switched off. Hulu has greenlit three extended-length special episodes of the animated sci-fi comedy, with the news revealed during the show’s San Diego Comic-Con panel alongside a new trailer for Season 14.
The trio of “XXXL-sized” specials are currently in production. The first will be Christmas-themed and is expected to arrive in 2027, while details of the other two are being kept under wraps. Given the show’s long history of cancellations, revivals and returning from the dead, three oversized adventures feels like a suitably on-brand way to keep Planet Express flying.
Before then, Season 14 arrives in August, and the new Comic-Con trailer suggests Fry, Leela, Bender and the rest of the crew are heading into another batch of deeply sensible and entirely safe space adventures. This time, the mayhem appears to include an intergalactic, and possibly inter-dimensional, mission.
The official logline reads: “Brace yourselves… The future is about to get a whole lot stranger! It’s a non-stop onslaught of swaggering space pirates, lab-grown meats, sexy scams… plus the shocking return of Dr. Zoidberg’s lost love! You didn’t see that coming, prior to being told about it just now!”
The returning voice cast includes John DiMaggio (Adventure Time), Billy West (The Ren & Stimpy Show), Katey Sagal (Sons of Anarchy), Tress MacNeille (The Simpsons), Maurice LaMarche (Pinky and the Brain), Lauren Tom (Friends), Phil LaMarr (Samurai Jack) and David Herman (Office Space).
‘Futurama’ was created by Matt Groening and developed by Groening and David X. Cohen. The executive producers are Groening, Cohen, Ken Keeler and Claudia Katz. The series is produced by 20th Television Animation, with Rough Draft Studios providing the animation.
‘Futurama’ Season 14 premieres Monday, 3rd August 2026 with two episodes on Disney+ in the UK and Ireland, with new episodes debuting weekly on Mondays. The season premieres the same day on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ for bundle subscribers in the USA.
