‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’ hasn’t even premiered yet, but STARZ is already all-in on the romantic time-travelling drama’s prequel series. The streamer has announced a Season 2 renewal for the highly anticipated show ahead of its Season 1 debut this August on Starz in the USA and MGM+ in the UK.
A stand-alone story set in the ‘Outlander’ universe, the new series dives deep into the lives and loves of Jamie Fraser’s parents Ellen MacKenzie (played by Harriet Slater – Pennyworth) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy – Condor’s Nest), as well as a second fated pair: Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield – We Hunt Together) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine – Treadstone). From the trenches of World War I to the wild beauty of 18th-century Scotland, their interconnected journeys promise emotional depth, sweeping romance, and the kind of historical drama that has defined the franchise.
“The passion and talent our cast and crew have poured into ‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’ has been extraordinary, and we’re thrilled to continue these epic love stories in Season Two,” said showrunner and executive producer Matthew B. Roberts.
Kathryn Busby, President of Programming at STARZ, added: “With Blood of My Blood, we’ve expanded the universe in a way that honours the original while charting bold new territory. Fans — longtime and new — will be drawn to the powerful love stories at the heart of this next chapter.”
Filming on Season 2 is already underway in Scotland, using the same studio stages that have housed the flagship ‘Outlander’ series for the past decade. The prequel features a fresh ensemble, including Tony Curran (Your Honor) as Simon Fraser, Lord Lovat, Rory Alexander (Karen Pirie) as Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser, Séamus McLean Ross as Colum MacKenzie, Sam Retford (Ackley Bridge) as Dougal MacKenzie, and Conor MacNeill (Industry) as Ned Gowan.
The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television, with Roberts joined by fellow executive producers Ronald D. Moore, Maril Davis, and Jim Kohlberg.
‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’ Season 1 premieres Friday, 8th August 2025 on STARZ in the US, and launches Saturday, 9th August 2025 on MGM+ in the UK.
