Hulu has debuted the official trailer for the new limited series ‘Washington Black’, starring and executive produced by Sterling K. Brown (This Is Us’). All eight episodes will premiere this July on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ internationally.
Based on the bestselling novel by Esi Edugyan, ‘Washington Black’ follows the extraordinary 19th-century journey of George Washington “Wash” Black, an eleven-year-old boy born on a Barbados sugar plantation. Gifted with a remarkable scientific mind, Wash is thrust into an unexpected and perilous adventure when a harrowing incident forces him to flee. As he travels across continents, he must confront the limits of the world around him and find the courage to imagine a future shaped by freedom, love, and possibility.
The series stars Ernest Kingsley Jr., Rupert Graves (Sherlock), Iola Evans (The Peripheral), Edward Bluemel (Killing Eve), Sharon Duncan-Brewster (Dune), Eddie Karanja, Tom Ellis (Lucifer), and Sterling K. Brown.
‘Washington Black’ is produced by 20th Television in association with Indian Meadows Productions and The Gotham Group. It is executive produced by Selwyn Seyfu Hinds and Kimberly Ann Harrison, who also serve as showrunners, alongside Sterling K. Brown, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Wanuri Kahiu, Mo Marable, Rob Seidenglanz, Jeremy Bell, Lindsay Williams, D.J. Goldberg, Jennifer Johnson, and Anthony Hemingway. Author Esi Edugyan is co-producer.
‘Washington Black’ premieres Tuesday, 23rd July 2025, on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ in the UK and internationally.
