Disney and ITV Join Forces for a Streaming Mash-Up, Bringing You a ‘Taste’ of Each Platform

by Dave Elliott

Streaming worlds are about to collide in the best possible way, as Disney+ and ITVX launch a first-of-its-kind partnership that’s set to spice up your watchlist. Starting Tuesday, 16th July, a hand-picked collection of hits from both platforms will land on each other’s services, giving viewers a “Taste of ITVX” on Disney+ and a “Taste of Disney+” on ITVX.

It’s a move that blends the best of British telly with global streaming powerhouses, and it’s completely free for existing users of either platform. No need to sign up for anything new, just sit back and enjoy the crossover content.

On Disney+, viewers will get to dive into some of ITV’s most talked-about shows. That includes the powerful true story ‘Mr Bates vs The Post Office’, the gripping spy drama ‘Spy Among Friends’, early seasons of the reality juggernaut ‘Love Island’, crime fan favourites like ‘Endeavour’, ‘Vera’, and the first season of ‘Karen Pirie’, which ties in with the second season dropping over on ITVX. Also in the mix are entertaining picks like ‘The 1% Club’ and Olivia Attwood’s high-glam docuseries ‘Price of Perfection’.

Flip over to ITVX, and things get even more interesting. The platform will roll out a rotating collection of Disney+ favourites, giving audiences a taste of global hits like The Bear, Andor, and Only Murders in the Building. Reality fans will find titles like ‘The Kardashians’ and ‘The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’, while families can enjoy animated classics such as ‘Lilo and Stitch: The Series’ and ‘Phineas and Ferb’. The best part? It’s all completely free, and if you’re on ITVX Premium, it’s ad-free too.

This collaboration also builds on an already strong relationship between Disney and ITV. ITV is the free-to-air home for Disney+ shows like ‘Renegade Nell’ and the upcoming ‘Under the Bridge’, while ITV Studios is behind Disney+ Originals like Rivals, ‘Suspect: The Shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes’, and the reboot of classic dating series Blind Date.

Joe Earley, President, Direct-to-Consumer, Disney Entertainment, called the move “an innovative collaboration,” adding:

“We are proud of this innovative collaboration with ITV, which will allow us to bring Disney+ customers some of the UK’s favorite and buzzworthy shows and encourage ITVX viewers to discover some of Disney+’s award-winning series and blockbuster films.”

Kevin Lygo, ITV’s Managing Director of Media and Entertainment, said:

“Disney are fantastic partners with a brilliant breadth of content. This mutually beneficial alliance allows us to show our complementary audiences a specially selected collection of titles, regularly updating, that gives a flavour of the range in our respective offerings.”

Whether you’re team Disney+, team ITVX, or both, this content swap is the perfect excuse to try something new.

If you want to keep track of these or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.

I’m not sure the demographic of people wanting to pay Disney+ to watch ITV shows is particularly big, especially when all these ITV programmes are available for free on ITVX anyway. I guess it boosts visibility for Disney+ TV shows like Andor going the other way to ITVX, but surely people who like ITV shows are already using the free ITVX service or linear ITV channels.
