It’s time to scrub back in! ABC has officially handed a straight-to-series order to a brand-new ‘Scrubs‘ revival, bringing back some of Sacred Heart’s most beloved alumni.
Donald Faison (The Exes), Sarah Chalke (Firefly Lane), and Zach Braff (Alex, Inc.) are all confirmed to reprise their original roles as Turk, Elliot, and J.D., and will also serve as executive producers on the new series. They’re joined behind the scenes by original creator Bill Lawrence, with Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra returning as showrunners, both of whom worked on the original show’s writing team.
The revival sees J.D. and Turk back together again after years apart, navigating a rapidly changing medical world. Interns have changed, medicine has evolved, but the bromance remains rock solid. Expect old faces and fresh recruits to collide in the halls of Sacred Heart once again, with laughs, heart, and a few surprises along the way.
While there’s no word yet on Judy Reyes (High Potential) reprising her role as Carla, scheduling discussions are said to be ongoing. Fingers crossed!
The new series is expected to land midseason and will be ABC’s second major scripted addition for 2025–26, alongside ‘9-1-1: Nashville’, which launches this autumn.
Speaking on the reboot, Lawrence said:
“Scrubs means so very much to me. So excited for the chance to get the band back together.”
The original ‘Scrubs‘ ran for nine seasons: seven on NBC, followed by two more on ABC. It followed a group of medical interns learning the ropes (and making plenty of mistakes) at Sacred Heart Hospital. The upcoming revival will blend nostalgia with new blood, acting as both a continuation and a soft reboot.
The ‘Scrubs‘ revival does not officially have a UK premiere date but will likely air on Disney+ in the UK. The series will air on ABC in the USA.
