Paramount+ has unveiled the first teaser for ‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’, giving fans their first glimpse at the new series ahead of its early 2026 premiere, which will also mark the beginning of Star Trek’s 60th anniversary celebrations.
The teaser offers a look at the San Francisco campus and introduces the U.S.S. Athena, a starship that will play an integral role in the series as part of the Academy’s operations.
Who’s in the cast?
The series will be led by Holly Hunter (The Piano) as Nahla Ake, the Chancellor of Starfleet Academy and Captain of the U.S.S. Athena — a long-lived half-Lanthanite who will oversee the new generation of cadets.
The Starfleet Academy students include:
- Sandro Rosta as Caleb Mir, an orphan with a troubled past who has found an unlikely place at Starfleet.
- Karim Diané as Jay-Den Kraag, a Klingon cadet with ambitions of becoming a medical officer.
- Kerrice Brooks as Series Acclimation Mil, a.k.a. “Sam”, the first of her kind ever to attend the Academy.
- George Hawkins as Darem Reymi, an aspiring captain from a wealthy home world.
- Bella Shepard as Genesis Lythe, the daughter of an admiral determined to make her own name in Starfleet.
They are joined by Zoë Steiner as Tarima Sadal, a Betazoid and daughter of the president of Betazed. In addition, several familiar faces will return to the Star Trek universe, including Robert Picardo reprising his role as The Doctor, Tig Notaro as Jett Reno, and Oded Fehr as Admiral Vance.
The series also introduces recurring guest stars Gina Yashere as Commander Lura Thok, a Klingon/Jem’Hadar hybrid and the Chancellor’s First Officer, and Academy Award nominee Paul Giamatti as Nus Braka, a part-Klingon, part-Tellarite villain with ties to one of the cadets.
What’s the story?
‘Starfleet Academy’ follows a diverse group of cadets as they train to become Starfleet officers, facing blossoming friendships, fierce rivalries, and first loves, all while contending with a new threat that endangers both the Academy and the Federation.
Behind the scenes
The series is co-showrun by Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek: Discovery) and Noga Landau (The Haunting of Bly Manor), with executive producers Gaia Violo, Aaron Baiers, Olatunde Osunsanmi, Jenny Lumet, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, Frank Siracusa, and John Weber. The premiere episode is written by Violo and directed by Kurtzman.
