AMC has revealed that its hit gothic drama ‘Interview With The Vampire’ is evolving into ‘The Vampire Lestat’ for its upcoming third season, and unveiled a behind-the-scenes sneak peek of the new episodes during San Diego Comic-Con.
The series, based on Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles, will now shift focus to the second novel in the series, placing Lestat de Lioncourt (played by Sam Reid (The Newsreader)) firmly at the centre of the story. The rebranding was announced at the show’s Comic-Con panel, where cast and crew teased what’s to come.
The contemporary adaptation of Rice’s iconic tale has so far followed the story of Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson (Game of Thrones)), Lestat, and Claudia (Delainey Hayles (Holby City)), as told to journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian (Billions)).
In season three, the Vampire Lestat sets out to “tell his story in a way only he can” by starting a band and going on tour. Viewers will meet a host of new characters, including Gabrielle, Nicholas, Magnus, Marius, and Those Who Must Be Kept, joining Louis, Armand, Molloy, Sam, Raglan, and Fareed on what AMC describes as “a sexy pilgrimage across space, time and trauma.”
The new cast members for season three include:
- Jennifer Ehle (Lioness) as Gabrielle
- Christopher Heyerdahl (Under the Banner of Heaven) as Marius
- Damien Atkins (Slings & Arrows) as Magnus
- Ella Ballentine (Black Conflux) as Baby Jenks
- Jeanine Serralles (Apples Never Fall) as Christine Claire
They join returning cast member Assad Zaman (Hotel Portofino) as Armand.
“I think we’re going to call it The Vampire Lestat, aren’t we?” teased Sam Reid in a Comic-Con teaser for the season.
The series continues to be executive produced by Mark Johnson (who oversees AMC’s Anne Rice Immortal Universe), alongside Rolin Jones (showrunner), Mark Taylor, Hannah Moscovitch, Christopher Rice, and the late Anne Rice.
