The BBC is getting spooky with a brand new factual entertainment series, as Daisy May Cooper (Am I Being Unreasonable?) and Charlie Cooper (This Country) reunite for ‘NightWatch’, a six-part series heading to BBC Two and iPlayer.
The sibling duo will quite literally be locking themselves away overnight in some of the UK’s most haunted locations, from abandoned Victorian prisons to eerie castles, creepy cinemas and even an isolated bothy in the Scottish Highlands. Their mission? Stay from dusk till dawn… hopefully without ghostly company.
The first stop is close to home, at HM Prison Gloucester, where the pair will spend the night shut inside a cell. From there, their ghost-hunting road trip will take them across the country, including a Northumberland castle, a Cannock Chase pub once popular with highwaymen, bat-infested ruins in Herefordshire, and a cinema in York said to be alive with more than just film reels.
Each episode begins with a tour from the building’s custodian, who will reveal chilling tales of paranormal happenings, before Daisy and Charlie are left alone with only each other, some spooky gadgets, and a long countdown to dawn. Between the frights, the series will also dip into their family life, sibling rivalry, and their Bafta-winning success with This Country.
Daisy and Charlie said:
“We’ve both had a brush with the paranormal, and really do love the concept of life after death, so we thought this could be the perfect way to prove to the world that we’re not delusional. It will be a miracle if we both come out alive and well.”
Catherine Catton, BBC Head of Factual Entertainment and Events, commented:
“We are really looking forward to spending the night with Daisy May and Charlie Cooper in some of the UK’s spookiest places.”
Lisa Clark, Executive Producer, added:
“Working with Daisy May and Charlie in some of the spookiest buildings in the UK was terrifying – but also a lot of fun.”
‘NightWatch’ is produced by Daisy and Charlie’s company So Humble, with Lisa Clark as executive producer, Stephanie Fyfe as series producer, and Rob Gill as series director. The Commissioning Editor for Factual Entertainment is Patrick McMahon.
‘NightWatch’ does not yet have a premiere date but will air on BBC Two and iPlayer in the UK. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
