‘The Capture’ Drops Tense First Teaser For Series Three As The BBC Thriller Returns This Spring

by Dave Elliott

The BBC has released a first teaser trailer for The Capture, giving fans their initial glimpse at the long-awaited third series of the hit surveillance thriller, which is set to return to BBC iPlayer and BBC One this spring.

The brief 20-second teaser aired on BBC One following the finale of The Night Manager series two, immediately plunging viewers back into a world where truth is fragile, reality is questionable, and technology is weaponised daily. With deepfakes now part of everyday life, the central question remains chillingly relevant: how do you protect the truth when seeing is no longer believing?

Set twelve months after the explosive events of series two, the new run finds Rachel Carey once again at the centre of the storm. After broadcasting a live deepfake of a government minister and exposing the UK intelligence service’s covert video manipulation programme known as Correction, Carey now finds herself promoted to Acting Commander of Counter Terrorism Command.

Her mission is clear. Restore public faith in surveillance technology through the newly introduced Operation Veritas camera system. Unfortunately, the job gets infinitely harder when a devastating and meticulously coordinated terrorist attack strikes at the heart of the British establishment, leaving behind a single witness and far more questions than answers.

As Carey digs deeper, the investigation spirals into a widening geopolitical crisis that entangles politicians, security services, and the media itself. The conspiracy appears to reach into the very core of the State, raising the unnerving question of who is really pulling the strings. With violence escalating and trust in short supply, Carey is forced to confront just how much she is willing to sacrifice.

Holliday Grainger (Strike, The Borgias) returns to lead the series as Rachel Carey, alongside a strong line-up of returning cast. These include Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You) as Isaac Turner MP, Indira Varma (Obi-Wan Kenobi) as Newsnight presenter Khadija Khan, Ben Miles (Andor) as Danny Hart, Lia Williams (The Crown) as Gemma Garland, Ginny Holder (Death in Paradise) as DI Nadia Latif, Nigel Lindsay (Victoria) as DSI Tom Kendricks, and Ron Perlman (Sons of Anarchy) as Frank Napier.

Series three also welcomes several new faces, with Killian Scott (Dublin Murders), Joe Dempsie (Game of Thrones), Andrew Buchan (Broadchurch), Hugh Quarshie (Holby City), and Amanda Drew (Guilt) joining the cast. Returning once again are Tessa Wong (The Gentlemen) as DC Chloe Tan, Daisy Waterstone (Silent Witness) as Abigail Carey, and Andy Nyman (Wicked) as Sir Rowan Gill.

The series is created, written, and executive-produced by Ben Chanan, and produced by Heyday Television for BBC iPlayer and BBC One. Direction duties on series three are shared by Anthony Philipson, Johnny Allan, and Chanan himself, with Derek Ritchie producing and also serving as executive producer. The drama is distributed internationally by NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution.

Ahead of the new season, the first two series of The Capture will return to BBC iPlayer from Friday, 13th February 2026, offering the perfect chance to catch up before the latest chapter begins.

The Capture’ Season 3 will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK in Spring 2026. Further transmission details are expected to be announced soon.
