‘Rooster’ is heading to the UK, with Sky and NOW picking up the new HBO Original comedy starring Steve Carell. The series lands this March, bringing a sharp, campus-set comedy from the team behind some of TV’s most beloved modern sitcoms.
Created by Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses, ‘Rooster’ is an HBO Original comedy that centres on a celebrated author whose carefully constructed life is thrown into chaos by his complicated relationship with his adult daughter. The setting is a college campus that functions less like an ivory tower and more like a pressure cooker, where everyone knows everyone else’s business and secrets travel fast.
Carell plays the author in question, nicknamed “Rooster” by students after the protagonist of his best-selling novels. His daughter is played by Charly Clive, whose character is dealing with a collapsing marriage, public humiliation, and the unique horror of having her personal life become campus folklore. From the US trailer, the show leans into awkward family dynamics, academic politics, and the particular cruelty of small communities with nothing better to do than gossip.
The supporting cast includes Danielle Deadwyler, Phil Dunster, John C. McGinley, and Lauren Tsai, with the tone sitting somewhere between uncomfortable character comedy and full-blown farce. Early footage suggests everything from literary lectures spiralling out of control to physical confrontations, faculty scandals, and the kind of escalating absurdity Bill Lawrence excels at.
Behind the scenes, ‘Rooster’ comes from Warner Bros. Television, with Lawrence executive producing through his Doozer banner alongside Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer. Matt Tarses also executive produces, joined by Jonathan Krisel, Barbie Adler, Annie Mebane, David Stassen, Anthony King, David Hyman, and Carell himself.
‘Rooster’ premieres Tuesday, 10th March 2026, on Sky and NOW. In the US, ‘Rooster’ premieres Sunday, March 8th, 2026, on HBO and HBO Max.
